Title: email stuck in outbox
Post by: pcs800 on June 03, 2005, 03:24:02 AM
Using OE, i have two pc's that have this trouble.
If i send an email to any random recipient, it stays in the outbox. BUT the recipient gets the email!
Both win xp. one is sp2 and one is sp1
OE and Avast are the only other things in common.
I am using the free version.
Thanks in advance.

Is there an error message from OE ?

Yeah, something like "this message failed, rejected by server" or something like that.
I know that sounds like a bad email address, but keep n mind that the person does get the email.

I have the same problem though I'm running Outlook XP (SP3) on WinXP. SP3 is supposed to resolve such issues - but didn't! I wonder if Avast is running some over-zealous background processes that might cause this...

Well it's definitely avast that causes it. I wish the authors would see this post and fix it.

Well the first reply was from one of the developers and they asked you what the error message is. Help him to help you be being exact on the error message, can you replicate it again and copy it or do a screen shot?

What makes you sure it is avast that causes it? - The more information you can provide the developers (who you wish would see this post and fix it) will help in their tracking the problem (where ever it lies) and hopefully fix it when you provide little information, if it is and avast issue.

The problem happens on my parents computer and a friends computer who both live quite a ways from me. They do not know how to take a screen shot. I have told them to write down the exact error message when it happens again.
How do I know it's avast that causes it?
I have them stop on access protection and everything works fine then.
I am not comlaining that Avast is a bad product or that the authors are not paying attention. Actually, Avast is my preferred AV solution. I was just not sure that the company pays attention to the forum, like most forums I figured it was users helping users.
No need to get all huffy on me.

Not huffy at all, a statement of fact.

No need to get all huffy on me.
For sure not, just trying to help.
The programmers look at the forum when the users fail on help and this does not seem the case...

Well, anyway, thanks for teaching me another word in English (huffy)  8)
Sometimes is good to look into the dictionary  ;D

Lol, yes "huffy" is a nice way of saying "snappy" or "Sarcastic".
Anyway, I did not mean to imply anything negative with alwil software company.

Not even to us, the avast users  8)
You're welcome, if you post a little more about the problem we'll be able to support you a little more too...

"Huffy" - causes this former Brit (now US citizen) to smile ... almost as much as when I was told recently that I needed "to chill".

Tech ... I'm sure that DavidR and I can come up with much more colourful (or colorful, depending on your dictionary) terms if you want to expand your  knowledge of English vernacular.

What is that supposed to mean? Sounds to this American like you are saying you are more intelligent than the others here and would be able to elaborate better than we did on the meaning of a word.

"Chill" - American slang for "Calm down" "Take it easy"

The slang words you read or hear are going to depend on the age and origin of the person speaking.

Judging from the national flags, Tech is in Brazil and I think, AE or BE, English is not his mother tongue while DavidR is in Britain and alanrf is, accoding to his own explanation, an ex-brit American.

Well somebody let me know where the "Let's share our national slang terms" forum is and I'll meet you there.

What if you disable outbound mail scanning in the "Internet Mail" provider? Does that solve the problem?

I tried that and it does not fix it.

I had this problem before and it was caused by damage to the outbox.dbx file.
Make sure that OE is closed and delete the outbox.dbx file and then restart OE.

Check here for more info :

Look under the "Damaged Mail Folders" section.

There are a few other possible solutions listed that you can try out as well if that doesn't work.
