Title: Windows 8 freezing at screen save and not booting up
Post by: Stu5229 on November 19, 2013, 07:09:34 PM
I have recently loaded Avasti on to my daughters laptop and subsequently it will not boot up. all the advice seems to refer to the windows start up screen etc. However we are not getting this far. The laptop is unresponsive with regard to mouse / keyboard. Only the clock continues to tell the time. Is this a problem caused from Avasti or is it just coincidence and the problem lies with the laptop.

Laptop is 11 months old, Asus X501U running Windows 8.

Any ideas, tight timeframe as she leaves the country Thursday at 6am!!!!!

Worried Mum

Why will it not let you attach the log.. Is there an error or something ?

On the flash drive should be a text file called FRST.txt.

Use the attachments and other options option under the answer box to attach it.

OK McAfee is installed and running on this computer and it blocked Avast all bar one driver.

I will remove the Avast files leaving just the Licence file and the setup file
It should boot normally after this
But, before you install Avast again you must uninstall McAfee, I will assist if you wish

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same USB as FRST
Run FRST as before and press Fix
On completion reboot to normal windows

OK Avast was not the cause then ..  On the advanced options of the recovery console could you try a system restore to a point prior to the non booting
