Title: Pop up Adas
Post by: GTX66 on November 21, 2013, 05:07:17 PM
I am a paying user of AIS. Why am I getting pop up adds from Avast wanting me to get a VPN? I do not need these ads and I also do not need a VPN.

If you can post an image of the pop-up as this mat be related to the auto update popup not working as it should.

I though it had been resolved, correct popup, voice-over notification and correct popup duration, but I have seen it revert intermittently to a non-update toaster popup, no voice-over and the popup doesn't close as it it should on the duration set. If you check you are likely to find that there may well have been an auto update.

That said, the VPN service isn't included in any of the paid versions either.

I have paid Premier sub. I just got this myself. Didn't get a screen shot but it came up like a VPS update pop up and started with "USA Today says: blah blah blah VPN" with a blue "Buy" button or similar.

If this is by design, I'm not really sure I want to keep this. I'm still within the time frame for a refund.

Edit: This was a stand-alone pop up. Not with any updates or anything.

It looks like you called for the devil and he jumped into my machine.

I never had these "non-update toaster popups" during automatic VPS updates as long as running version 2014 inclusive the betas. Yesterday I made a complete new "clean" installation (no avast! related reasons) of 9.0.2008 and since that time I see regularly "non-update toaster popups" during automatic VPS updates.
At least I know now what all these people were talking about, when they complained about this little bug!

It is kind of hard to get a screenshot of a pop up that come on for a few seconds? I would think that Avast should be aware of what their product does. I do not sit at my desk looking for pop ups.

Well if it is as I suspect a recurrence of the update notification bug, it will stay there much longer than a few seconds. You can also use the 'Show last popup message' from the right click menu on the avast tray icon.

This is one I got this morning, is/was yours the same ?
If so it is the bug back.

Yep, the bug is back. I no longer get the correct popup after a VPS update, but see the adverts instead.

I'm getting this bug for the first time, starting yesterday.  The popup shows for at least the full 20 seconds, while the normal VPS update notification (set to show for 5 seconds) does show for only the set time.

Here it is on my machine and it stays there more than a few seconds at least today. It happens when I turn on my machine.

I too though it was resolved too, but it is intermittent, much of the time it is not working, but occasionally it gives a hope that has been resolved only to have your hopes dashed.

When will this be fixed? It happens every time I turn on my machine in the morning.

We though it had been fixed, but it is back and as an avast user I don't know when will be fixed.

Of course it is likely to happen then as that is the most likely time you will receive an auto update notification (screwed up or otherwise). But it doesn't happen on every update hence my frustration too.

It's not frustrating to me since I still get streaming updates.
It is irritating though. It would be great if avast fixed it.  :)

It occurs like clockwork every morning when I turn on my PC. This is a bug and if it is not fixed I will not renew AIS. How do I know if I am getting every update? It says it was updated the same time as this pop up occurred. A security program should be free of bugs especially known bugs?

As I have said a number of times, when you see any toaster popup right click on the avast icon and select about avast. I would say that the possibility that you have just received the latest VPS is extremely high whilst this bug is present. Don't lose sight of the fact you should still be getting the streaming updates.

Is Avast even aware that it still doesn't work properly. I haven't seen a comment from any of the team people in any of the recent threads about this.

I don't know if there is an Avast employee delegated to read all of the posts and initiate some action if an issue appears to be a program problem. I think it more likely the issue would be actioned if there were support tickets raised.

I understand that but this is a Bug that should be fixed. It did not happen today for me. But my last update is from the 22nd.
