Hi,
a scan of the Privacy Advisor slows my phone almost to a deep sleep.
How can I stop this scanning?
-
You can disable scanning in the AMS settings...

You can disable scanning in the AMS settings...
Really sure?
I searched several times, there is no possibiltiy to deactivate this in the free version.
I can only deactivate virus scan and PUP detection.

Can't you disable advisory notifications?

Of course I can disable the notification, but I want to disable the automatic scanning. My smartphone is almost blocked for (exact) 7 Minutes during scanning of 150 apps.
-
I also want to be able to disable the random app scanning of privacy advisor.
-
I notice I get random Privacy Advisor scans also....kind of annoying. I have also seen it start Privacy Advisor scans when I open the GUI...seems like that shouldn't happen unless the user also hits the Privacy Advisor tab within the GUI, right? I can hit cancel and it stops, but still bothersome. Is there a threshold of time or after certain apps get updated that triggers these scans on top of the regular Avast scanning of apps when activated/updated? If you let Privacy Scan complete (as if it were building a full list of apps) will it stop starting these random scans?
It's all very random or I would send a log into Avast.
Thanks.
-
The random scans do not stop if you let privacy advisor complete.
-
Hi,
that depends on how you define "random". It should scan:
1) Installed/updated app, at the same time the virus scan scans the app.
2) When you enter the Privacy Advisor from the dashboard and the information might be outdated, a full scan of all apps is performed. The information might be outdated usually once or twice a day.

1) Installed/updated app, at the same time the virus scan scans the app.
We do not want this to occur automatically, a checkbox (as in virus scan) would be the solution.
Not every user has a quad score cpu smartphone with > 2 GHz :-(

I have dual core 1GHz and it's fine :) But I understand what you mean. It might be changed sometimes in the future, but no promises.

It also scans randonly when you just open the GUI. This is something we don't want also. Thanks.
-
When you open the dashboard? You see the scanning progress from Privacy Advisor and you can't access the dashboard?
Filip
-
Not every time. But after a period of time has passed and you open the dashboard, the Privacy Advisor scan starts on its own. You can still access the Dashboard but the scan is running.
-
OK, and how do you enter the app? Via the usual icon on your desktop/your app list, via notification or...?
Filip

I use the icon in the App Drawer.

Filip:
Regarding the Privacy Advisor starting to scan when opening GUI after accessing through "desktop" icon, I was able to replicate the issue. I went into the GUI a couple of times and the Privacy Advisor started scanning each time. Hopefully that action provided enough info in the log I sent into Avast via the bug reporting in GUI that you can see what we're talking about. Below is the auto-reply ID# I got in my email. Hope that helps.

Latest update did NOT fix Privacy Advisor starting scans randomly when accessing GUI.
Maybe somebody else experiencing the same problems could send in a log also to see if this annoyance can get fixed.
Thanks.

Is it still an issue?

Is it still an issue?
Looks like Privacy Advisor is not scanning now when accessing GUI. Got in and out of GUI a few times without an issue.
Thanks for fixing.
-
It seemed to only do it after a certain amount of time passed. I will need to test it again in the near future to see if it is resolved.
-
Yes, it should rescan the apps after some time or in case the new app was installed / updated. If something will be wrong, please let us know.

I just got an lg optimus q slider (lgl55c), I install avast,
and the privacy advisor runs repetitively and constantly. I
watched and allowed it to complete 23 times before I had
to force stop and uninstall. I would really like to get this
fixed, avast is my goto solution for android security.
-
Thanks for report, it could be caused by LG ROM (these are very strange).
-
I figured as much, it runs great on my lg vm670 though & all my other android devices. I tried a couple of ROMs, and after a bunch of terminal work, I finally stopped the process that was triggering it, though I'm not sure which it was. It would be nice, if not adding a disable feature, just as a suggestion, at least you implemented a scheduling option, so that privacy advisor could only run at a specified time each day or upon installing a new app or update, this would be very helpful to the less tech savy users who encounter this problem. Thanks again for all that you do at the avast team, & keep up the good work!

We will try to implement something, but no promises ...

Well, Privacy Advisor ran yesterday on it's own after I opened the GUI from the app menu. Looks like the problem wasn't resolved on 4.4 either.
