Title: Avast, Firefox, Icon Nuisance
Post by: brantty on November 26, 2013, 08:26:22 PM
I am a Win7 Firefox user. After Avast's recent update (2014.9.0.2008) Every time I open Firefox, Avast opens the Navigation Toolbar and places an Icon in it.  Is it possible to prevent this happening ?

I don't use the nav toolbar, I have my nav tools in my 'bookmarks toolbar' and the 'Nav toolbar' hidden, this keeps my browser nice and tidy. I have no need for the Avast Icon and I don't wish to waste space with an otherwise empty toolbar - so any suggestions in how I can stop Avast inserting this every time I open Firefox ?

Unfortunately for now that is where the avast online security add-on icon goes. For me that's fine as I use the navigation toolbar, but I can understand those who want an even more minimalist look/feel.

In avast 8 with the old WebRep add-on I believe it was possible to move it, I don't know why that changed or if they plan to allow it to be placed in other locations.

Essentially the only way to stop it is to disable it in the firefox add-ons section.

From the FF GUI open "tools">click "add-ons">from there you should be able to enable disable what you want or don't want.
Hope this helps. I use FF only to check issues other than than that I use Chrome.  :)

certainly disabling the webrep as described above does solve my problem - Am I correct in believing that disabling the webrep does not affect the web-shield or any other security feature.

Correct, it doesn't effect the web shield or any other avast shields.
