Title: Ashquick.exe process doesn't stop after download check
Post by: wired4action on December 09, 2013, 08:27:49 PM
I use ashquick.exe in Star Downloader. After download it starts, SD shows download complete after virus check.
Ashquick.exe seems to be working properly- completion window takes a long time for huge downloads; comes up quickly for small files.
The problem is the ashquick.exe process continues to run (in Taskmanager) forever. To shut it down I have to disable the Avast! Self-Defense Module (and of course re-enable it after I've ended the process in Taskmanager).

Is this something peculiar to SD or is there a parameter I need to add to ashquick.exe? I'm pretty sure I used  %1 on my other computer (same SD and Win versions but older Avast! version) and did not have this behavior. From what I've found in these forums I shouldn't need any parameters (indeed, the scan is working- it's found problems for me).

Using WinXP SP3 with Avast! program version 2014.9.0.2008.
Anyone have a clue on how to make it shutdown automatically after the download scan?

Thanks in advance for any replies,
Vic L

Can you create a dump of the zombie process (I guess self-defense must be disabled for that), e.g. via Process Explorer (Full dump, preferably) - and upload it to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming (ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming) under some unique name?
(Or if you want to use some web storage service, no problem).
Thanks.

I sent the  Process Explorer full dump file to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming named "ashQuick.dmp-wired4action".

Today ashquick.exe only stayed running sometimes (keeping memory and virtual memory usage- which is why I wanted it shut it down).
I downloaded several files with SD- sometimes it would stop itself and sometimes not. Before today it always kept running (different days, rebooting system daily).

I downloaded a small file, waited for and closed the SD completion window, waited a while and then exited SD, and waited a while to make sure it wasn't shutting down before grabbing the dump.
Hope this helps.

I've been using Avast! Free for years on all my computers and love the way it works. I also make sure it gets installed on every computer I help others with. This new behavior with Star Downloader (which I've also been using for years) has me baffled.

Thank you for helping out with this matter.
