Title: Avast blocks infection from avast site
Post by: mrzee on December 17, 2013, 11:01:56 PM
I'm using the latest version of avast IS on Windows 7 and it just gave me the message

"Infection Blocked"
URL: http://files.avast.com/files/emupdate/20131217.exe
Infection: Win32:Downloader-TJK [Trj]

What's that all about?

I was browsing ubisoft page, and got the same warning.
Is avast blocking its own update? :)

Same here.Actually in my case Web Shield has blocked AvastEmUpdate

Object: hxtp://files.avast.com/files/emupdate/20131217.exe
Infected: Win32:Downloader-TJK[Trj]
Process: C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\AvastEmUpdate.exe

Same deal here, I just happened to see it pop up while sitting here and I clicked on more detail from the pop up.

How do I view what url and what file the web shield has blocked if I don't see the popup? It used to be easy to look at detailed reports in version 8 for each shield. With this POS version 9 I don't see that for web shields or any shield.

It means that they need to block themselves like they do so many others.  I got it too.

They never responded so I quit sending in tickets.
6 weeks now...  was forced to purchase another domain.
Sales..... almost zero during that time.

"Avast, ... protecting you from itself since 1988"

Bet your ass that screen shot is getting posted... "everywhere".

Time to check out that top av scanners site again.  Never had any of these false positives with MS Essentials.

MSE is complete garbage. Horrible detection rates. Check out http://www.av-comparatives.org/.

I've been using Avast for about 8 years and I'm about ready to switch over to Kaspersky, it's not free but it's excellent.

I do not like version 9 of Avast..at all.

So is this fixed? What was it? False positive or was there a Trojan downloader in the update file?

It should be fixed yesterday already. It was just false positive.

Glad it's fixed. I removed Avast from my main system, installed Kaspersky. Maybe if Avast comes out with a version next year that doesn't suck I'll come back to it, until then... ciao Avast.
