Title: "Original Name: 20131224.EXE"
Post by: NTxLS on January 27, 2014, 11:39:45 AM
I have searched and read some. not all as I do not read French, about this file in the subject line. I have four (4) copies of this file in the folder 'emupdate' all of the same size, why do I need this many of the same file? They are all for the same needed operation, "RunOnce" but why four (4)? These should not still be on our systems after being used by Avast! for the Emergency Update, if there is a new one in the next EMupdate. We cannot remove the extra files as they require special permission to do this task. I am a home user and my own Admin to maintain this system. Avast! should remove this file after it is run or give us permission to take care of business on our own systems. The file's name is not as shown in the subject line but each different very long RegKey title.

You can disable avast's selfprotecion and remove them.
Don't know if it is safe to remove them though.

"Eddy,"

Thank you for this information, will remove three (3) of the older models keeping the latest. Just incase they do not send one with the next version, I am sure they will but you never know.

Not a problem, will take full responsibility for my actions.

Don't forget to enable the self protection again.

"Eddy,"
Thank you for this reminder, to me that is obvious . . I am presuming the AVATAR is an example of your past, so "THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE" we are FREE because of People such as yourself.

"Eddy,"

Have done the disabling "avast's selfprotecion" as you mentioned without any success and there are nine (9) of those programs in this system all of the same size.  Just was thinking maybe there should be only the present month and last month's be enough to do this job.  The same size file so many copies for doing just one job is a bit un-necessary IMHO.

Excuse me, please, forgot to mention that it is "enabled" again.  Thank you for reading my posts . .

The avast housekeeping really should periodically remove these or do it after the emupdate uniquely name file has been run successfully.

You mention another 9, but you don't say where. My guess is that they aren't in the emupdate folder, but are in the setup sub-folder. These too can be removed (same drill to disable the self-defence, etc.), by all means leave the latest one if you feel the need.

I periodically remove these also - but the choice has to be yours.
