I started getting this error awhile ago and (stupidly) ignored it until i noticed i couldn't update avast anymore. I tried repairing avast under the control panel uninstall/repair options and as it was repairing it updated my avast but my firewall wasn't working anymore. The error was still popping up aswell.
So i uninstalled avast using their remover and reinstalled it and tried updating it to the 2014 version but it says my program needs to be 1995 or older (really???). On top of that it now says my subscription has expired!! Ive only had it since Sept of 2013!
The error is still popping up after all this too.
I'm using Avast! Internet Security
Help please?

Hello philrus, welcome to the forums.
Please try and follow these steps:
Hi,
please start Windows Explorer and enable viewing hidden files AND protected operating system files in the Windows Explorer options. Then check if there is a file called "Program" (not a directory, but a file) directly located under C:\ on your hard disk. If there is such a file (not a directory and only if the file is exactly named "Program"), delete it, run the avast! Uninstall Tool, reboot and try to run the setup again. That should work.

I use Chrome as my main browser. Does that make a difference? Ill go through those steps in IE later today when i get home.
thanks

Ok so it won't let me delete the file. It says, "This action can't be completed because the file is open in Program."
Any suggestions?

No, it's not related. The procedure is meant for Windows explorer, not Internet Explorer.

How about doing it from Safe-Mode?
