I can't for the life of me figure out how to disable or uninstall Safe Price. The two previous posts on the subject do not provide the answer. Please help me get rid of it before I have to get rid of Avast altogether.

If you don't want the "safe price", just remove the plug-in from your browser.
-
How? I use Chrome, and it is not listed in the plug-ins or in the extensions.
-
Do you have a plugin from avast called AOS?
If so SafePrice should be in the menu there.
From the main website :
avast! SafePrice is a part of avast! Online Security web browser protection plugin for Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer which suggests better prices for users when they are on shopping sites. It can be enabled or disabled directly in the settings of avast! Online Security web browser protection plugin.

::) ::) there are other people posting questions about SafePrice ;) ;) ;)

I have searched the forum and there has been no answer to the question, at least not for Chrome. It is pure spam that takes up real estate at the top of the page, it should not be an irremovable part of an anti-virus program. Someone must have an answer to how to get rid of it.

Or in Chrome open: chrome://extensions/
Click options for the AOS

In Firefox, clicking the green circle icon on the top right toolbar opens a Safeprice window on the right. Open the settings button, and you have an option to disable the Safeprice function while leaving the other security functions enabled.

Wow. Does not reading for comprehension and sarcastically answering legitimate questions make you feel better. Useless aren't you.

I am having the same problem using Firefox 27.0.1, that is that I cannot disable “Safe Price”. There is a green circle icon in the upper right corner of the navigation toolbar which is unlabeled. I assume it is for the Avast Online Security Plugin settings. If I left-click on that circle, there is no window which opens up for Safe Price settings, either on the right or anywhere else on my screen. In fact, nothing at all happens when I left-click on that Icon.
When I go to Firefox “Add-ons” there is NO plugin listed for Avast in the list of plugins. There is an EXTENSION for Avast! Online Security (9.0.2013.75) installed however but there are no settings available for it. The only option available for it is to either enable/disable it. I tried disabling that extension but I still got the “Safe Price” popup when I searched for products.
Finally, I opened the Avast user interface itself and searched through all of the settings in ALL of the categories on the left. I could not find anything at all in any of those categories and settings which addressed Safe Price.
Right now I am completely stumped and cannot find any way whatsoever to disable Safe Price. It seems to me that at least on my system, the only way I can remove or disable it is by uninstalling Avast completely. Is there something I am missing? I am using Avast Free 2014.9.0.2013.

Me too. How the hell do I remove this thing? I'm also running Avast Free 2014.9.0.2013 with Firefox 27.0.1. The only extension listed in Firefox is "Avast! Online Security 9.0.2013.75"....which has NO settings. You can only enable/disable it.
Clicking the green circle to the upper right allows me to rate a site, and has options to to allow/block tracking from social networks, ad tracking, web analytics and others. There IS a settings button at the bottom of this page, but clicking on it does nothing. Nothing at all happens when I click the settings button from the green circle page!
I've searched everywhere in Avast for Safe Price, but found nothing.

As a follow up to my previous post, I finally contacted Avast technical support and this is the response I received from them today, February 27, 2014:
"Unfortunately we are working to solve this issue in Firefox 27, it should be solved soon. The extension cannot be removed in this particular version of Firefox.

Same problem: Firefox 27.0.1, Avast 2014.9.0.2013
Avast has 24 hours to fix or this gets yanked from 2 computers and 2 devices 178 days before the end of a 1 year subscription.
Information assurance and security vendors dont get to 'default enable without prior notification' new features - not this decade. And a broken interface to disable a browser plugin/extension to give me more 'shopping info' does not instill any confidence. More features = more lines of code that can introduce bugs and vulnerabilities. Why cant we just stick to the core mission of preventing exfiltration of my data without my consent? I thought that was a pretty onerous responsibility by itself. I don't need security software to tell me I can buy underwear cheaper used on ebay while browsing boxers at wal mart. What a distraction for AV and firewall product managers.

Just had this myself with Firefox. After a lot of digging, disabled it by clicking the question mark at the top right (when the bar appears), then on the big screen that comes up, there is a tiny icon in the bottom left saying disable safe price - this is obviously designed to be hard to find.
I find it incredible that a company like Avast can include something like this in their software, being enabled by default, with no obvious way to disable - to me it seems bordering on malware itself.
I have used Avast for many years, both the free and paying versions, and also supply/recommend it to my customers as well - but if this is the way it's going I will move to something else.

By "bar", are you referring to the Navigation Toolbar? If so, there is no question mark icon on the top right of my Navigation Toolbar but there is a green circular icon which is left partially open without forming a complete circle. It doesn't look like a question mark to me. In any case, neither right-clicking, middle-clicking or left-clicking on it causes *anything* to happen on my system. There is no window, tab, large screen or anything else appearing and pop-ups are not blocked in FF either on my system. It seems to be a completely dead icon with no function whatsoever nor any label to describe what it is for.
Are you using Firefox 27.0.1? I am using FF 27.0.1 and Win 7.
-
By bar I mean the Safe Price bar that appears at the top of the browser screen, but below the menus etc. I can't check now, as once disabled there seems no way to enable again!! From what I remember there was a circle icon on the left which did nothing, and two icons on the right - a question mark, and an X. The x only offered to close for a certain time, but the question mark brought up another black screen with some info and a big button asking to continue, but there was a tiny link to disable in the bottom LHS.
This was FF 27 on Windows 7 pro 64.

Just disable the AOS extension.

Just disable the AOS extension.
As was pointed out in post 11 in this thread, Avast has said that because of a bug, the extension *cannot* be disabled in FF vers 27.

Well, they're wrong. I have enabled/disabled it a few times this week.
Edit: In fact I have just disabled it again between this original post and the edit.

As was pointed out in post 11 in this thread, Avast has said that because of a bug, the extension *cannot* be disabled in FF vers 27.
Post #11 indicates that the AOS cannot be "removed" from Firefox 27. There never was a problem enabling/disabling it.

SafePrice is part of AOS, and can be turned off in the AOS settings menu.
But the fly in the ointment is AOS has a bug which has disabled the Settings button in FF27. There is a workaround in the following thread. Initial post and first response. Paste the link posted by Asyn into Firefox.

I'm really frustrated with this popup. I don't have it listed in my Chrome Plugins, and the only thing I have in Extensions is avast! Online Security 9.0.2013.75, with the ability to disable it.
I've been using the free Avast for years, and decided to buy the Pro and put it on all five of our computers. The free version never had a popup, but since I've installed the pay version, I now have a popup that drives me nuts??? How does that even make sense?
It looks as though I only have the choice to enable or disable Avast Online Security, but....I just paid for it, so it doesn't make sense to disable the protection. But from what I understand, I need to disable the protection I just bought in order to get rid of the popup.
Do I have that right?
-
At least turn off the "Safe Price" option through the settings or AOS.
First time I saw "Safe Price" I was looking for a particular movie in Blu-ray on amazon.com. The "Safe price" suggested a eBay vendor selling the DVD, a vendor I just happen to have never heard of, and an eBay auction of CDs (not even offering the movie in any form).
-
I have the option to turn the whole Avast system off or turn it on. It doesn't give me an option to turn off components of it.
I have looked through everything on Chrome and in the Avast settings, but can't find anything that even refers to Safe Price.
This is incredibly frustrating. I'm wondering if it is possible to get my money back and go back to the free version? Does anyone know if that is possible?
I use an ultrabook that maxes out at 4 mb of ram. When I have my online store up and my shipping program to process my orders, for some reason Safe Price pops up, as though I'm going to be looking for comparison prices that will be better than my own store. When it does that, everything freezes. I don't know what is causing that, but it is making my workflow turn into hell.
In the past year that I've had my ultrabook, everything has been working great. The only thing I've changed in the past three months is moving from free Avast to Avast Pro. So, I'm blaming it on Safe Price.
-
AOS (including SafePrice) is in the free version as well. So you're wrong on that count.
-
I never had a single popup in any of my browsers in the five years I've used free Avast until I downloaded Avast Pro yesterday. Take that however you choose.
-
I've had Avast for a while, but encountered the Safe Price issue for the first time this morning. For those still having problems with it on Chrome, open your settings, click Extensions, then under avast! Online Security click "Options". Scroll down to the last option "SafePrice" and uncheck the box. This should solve your problem.
-
Try this. When Safe Price pops up, click on the ? mark next to the X (close) button. There should be a link to disable Safe Price at the bottom left. Here is a screenshot of the page with the link circled. http://i.imgur.com/qfb4EWH.png
-
Thanks for your instructions, but it that still didn't turn it off. Apparently our fault. We did some digging and found (for some reason) our Avast wasn't updating - the program itself. We clicked "update" but it did nothing. We had to redownload the program and start again. Now it seems to have turned off...will see! I hope so! I always recommended Avast to friends and family. Would have been a shame if we had to put up with forced SPAM...which it really was.

In Firefox v28.0......right click on green circle (avast! Online Security), choose settings (a grey box at the very left BOTTOM below the avast logo), scroll down to the very bottom of that page and uncheck the box for SafePrice.
It is NOT listed as an extension or plugin in Firefox v28.0.
They must get a commission from eBay for every direct there. ;D They sure do make this difficult to disable as you can't get to this setting in the main avast settings menu (it should be disabled by default IMHO).

The Add-in is "Avast! Online Security". The "Safe Price" is just part of that. Most of the online security comes from the Web Shield and Firewall, so the loss of protection from disabling the "Avast! Online Security" add-on is limited.
If you want to keep the Avast! Online Security add-on but kill the Safe Price
- in Firefox, at the right extreme of the navigation toolbar in a window that is sitting on a web site (doesn't work at about:blank), click (not right+click, just a normal click) on the "avast! Online Security" icon (looks like a broken circle, but really is a stylized "a") and the AOS panel will appear over the right part of the web page.
- At the bottom of that panel is a place you can click for "Settings". At that point, a separate tab should open and you should see "avast! avast! online security settings" screen.
- At the very bottom of that screen (on my system, I have to scroll that page to the bottom) is "SafePrice Receive SafePrice shopping recommendations on relevant sites." In front of that you will see a checkmark. Click to uncheck that line,
- then click on the "Save" button.
That should do it in Firefox until the cookie that AOS uses gets deleted.

I'm running FF version 28, and I find on three of my desktops running the free version of Avast that the setting button triggered by clicking on the Avast styled @ is grayed out. Clicking on the My Avast button alongside, I can access my account with Avast, but flog the site as much as I can reasonably do, I cannot find a way to disable Safe Price from any of my machines. What is extremely frustrating is that I carefully install the Avast software paying attention to what is added to my account. I never see the Safe Price option, nor can I find in the install package where it is nested. I also tried the click on the question mark ploy which used to work, but the choice to remove Safe Price is no longer there.
I have used Avast for years and have been well satisfied, but I have to say that Avast's implementation of Safe Price smacks a bit of under handiness. It should not be such a detailed task to get rid of something like Safe Price if you do not want it. Come on Avast...
-
After my post concerning disable/uninstall SafePrice, I checked out my Chrome browser and found that Safe Price is easily managed there. I have to say that I was wrong about Avast. It appears that FireFox is making the SafePrice settings difficult to handle, not Avast. On I go to the FireFox support forums.

Were you actually displaying a web page at that time? If you are sitting at a blank page, configuration screen, Add-on screen, anything other than an actual web page, the @ will be grayed out.

Boy, am I glad that I am seeing others complaining about the pesky web page that Avast has started throwing in my face each time I start Firefox, after Avast automatically updated itself several days ago.
I will shortly be another ex=customer if Avast don't get this sorted. Back in the day that I was a software developer we used to actually test releases before they went out the door. It seems to me that Avast think it's okay to treat their customers as the test platform.

Set program updates to manual, then do a custom install. Updates via GUI install all the latest fluff and wonderful extras.

Chrome users:
Go to: chrome://extensions in your browser.
Locate: avast! Online Security
Scroll down to the [Options] hyperlink and click it, which should open this page in your browser:
chrome-extension://gomekmidlodglbbmalcneegieacbdmki/options.html
There is a list of avast! options on that page. Safe Price is at the very bottom of those options.
Depending on your screen size, you may have to scroll down to see it.
Uncheck box. Safe Price disabled. No uninstall required.
Hope this helps any Chrome users.
-
I actually had problems getting this in Firefox 28.0. The first few times i went to the settings, I did not see anything about safe price listed. Try copy and pasting this into firefox:
chrome://wrc/content/options.html
Its showing for me now when I go to setting now, but they made this way to much work to turn off. Also you have to scroll to the bottom when you get to this settings page if it's there.

Excellent advice (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=145852.msg1080106#msg1080106) from StereoMaxim.
One addition to his instructions, that will only apply to a few folks. I have had a couple of friends who did not understand when I told them something like Go to: chrome://extensions in your browser. Since I am also rather slow on the uptake note1 at times, here are the ELI5 note2 instructions:
- Copy this: chrome://extensions/
- Open a new Chrome tab or window.
- Right-click on the address bar (where the website address or URL is displayed).
- Select (left-click on) Paste and go.
- Follow StereoMaxim's instructions (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=145852.msg1080106#msg1080106) from there (beginning with "Locate: avast! Online Security"
Finding the avast! Online Security extension on the Chrome extensions page is not difficult because the list of extensions is in alphabetical order, and you can also look for the nifty avast! icon: (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=145852.0;attach=133662)
I hope that helps other slowuptakers. ;D
Notes
note1: "slow on the uptake" is an American and British idiom that originated in the early 1800's meaning slow to comprehend. It alludes to absorbing ("taking up") information. See: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/on%20the%20uptake (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/on%20the%20uptake)

Also you have to scroll to the bottom when you get to this settings page if it's there.
I got to the settings for the plugin by clicking the green "circle" in the upper right of my firefox 28 window (acutally the lowercase "a" for Avast extension--v.9.0.2018.95), then clicked the "Settings" down at the bottom of the drop-down.
But I DIDN'T scroll down until I saw your post. ::) That's where the SafePrice setting is.
Thanks, g_b_y!

Here's what I had to do on latest version of firefox, Windows 7 64 bit. Left click small green circle to the right of the address bar, avast info appears in a column on right of page. At the bottom right of that column, click settings, untick SafePrice box. Worked for me.

in FireFox... Here is a solution. Search the FF tool bar for the green unenclosed circle... On mine it is on the top right of the toolbar....Left click that green circle....A drop down menu appears... At the bottom of the menu left click SETTINGS.....New page.... Avast on line security....You must scroll down to make to hidden choices appear. Unclick the radial box that says "SAFE PRACTICES"... Then left click "SAVE"

Shame on your avast for installing this kind of crap on my computer without my approval!!
You should be disciplined huge NO-NO in the software industry..
-
You know - I was wondering what all the fuss was about because I had never seen any adverts or anyting to upset me from Avast. I then remembered that in all my browsers I have either AdBlock or AdBlock Plus or Adblock Edge installed and haven't seen an advert in my browser for many a moon.....
Maybe that's the answer and then you can forget all about it.
Cheers,
Paul

OK, try this. Type the following into your Firefox address bar:
chrome://wrc/content/options.html (hit Enter)
Scroll down to the bottom and uncheck “SafePrice Receive SafePrice shopping recommendations on relevant sites.” Then, click on the "Save" button. Problem solved.
Just keep in mind that if Firefox or Avast "updates" their software, SafePrice might return ... requiring you to redo the procedure above. Good luck.

That should do it in Firefox until the cookie that AOS uses gets deleted.
Some time ago, I went to this page and removed the check from the SafePrice box and clicked saved. I still have SafePrice showing on some, but not all, web pages. I've restarted Firefox (and the computer) many times since then, cleared cookies, cleared cache, run anti-malware (SafePrice most definitely IS malware, IMO) and I'm still seeing this nuisance on some of my web pages.
I'm using FF 33. I'm using avast! free and have updated the program every time an update is announced.
How can I get rid of this once and for all? I'm tired of seeing this thing all the time.
-
I used the directions in the above post to (finally!) disable SafePrice. Avast -- disabling this add-on was way too difficult, and it should have been an opt-in, not an opt-out.
-
I see a lot of talk about how to disable this addon, but not a single reply about how to uninstall this spyware.
You are an antivirus company selling an antivirus and anti spyware product and yet you install addons on people's computer WITHOUT notifying them or asking permission first and yet you want people to use your product to stop anyone from installing addons and other malware without asking permission (something you just did).
On top of that, this is a product that STEALS commissions from hard working affiliates around the world.
I have been a very loyal Avast user for many MANY years and have recommended your product to clients for many MANY years, but that just ended today!
Since this addon just showed up today for the first time, I figured you have recently just done another push of this to people.
It's disgusting that a company claiming they are to be trusted does this and completely ruins the trust of it's users to install ANY THING without permission.
-
Easily removed via the Programs and Features route - click to uninstall then choose change on the following screen and untick any feature not wanted.
-
Safe Price is NOT an option to remove in that manner.
This is an add-on that was added WITHOUT PERMISSION and without asking first, and that is what the application is designed to stop.
So they can sit back and say:
Use our product to stop all unethical practices of others trying to install stuff without your knowledge....but we might do it.
Edited to add:
I also just discovered that one can not seize ownership nor add a user to the safeprice folder in C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\safeprice (even after diabling avast protection while attempting it).
-
One way (I am sure unsupported) to get rid of this is to go into safe mode and rename the folder C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\safeprice to something like safeprice.old.
Create a new folder called SafePrice
Remove inherited permissions
Remove all users from this folder so that neither admins nor the system can write to the folder
Delete the safeprice registry key located at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Firefox\Extensions
The extension will be gone and can not be reinstalled or enabled without first either adding users back to the folder which you removed permissions, or it would have to install into a folder named something different.
The above directions should only be used by those who understand the risks associated with tinkering in the registry, and you may want to back up the key before deleting it.
-
I see a lot of talk about how to disable this addon, but not a single reply about how to uninstall this spyware.
First hit in Google showed me this : https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=179019.msg1267259#msg1267259
You did gave permissions as has been explained a huge amount of times on this webboard.
It doesn't steal anything from no-one.
If the add-on showed up for the first time for you....
You are not a long time user because it was already there over 2 years ago or you have never paid attention to what you installed (at least not when installing/updating avast).
There is no need at all to rename/delete the folder in safe mode.
It can easily be done while in normal mode.
-
I have been using Avast for many years, and have kept it updated and it only just showed up
And the folder would not let an admin account rename it even after authorizing it through UAC
And no, I was not asked if it was ok to install "safeprice" as I wold have said no
-
- Disable avast self defense
- Rename (or delete) the folder
- Enable avast self defense again
-
In my case that did not work, even after disabling shield control also, (not sure why) and going in to safe mode was the fastest and easiest way that all users could understand.
Deleting the folder allows for a re-install, but a folder existing by that name that the system does NOT have access to will always disable the ability for Avast to install it in the future, since the recent install was done without asking I can expect it could have happened again.
-
I said to disable the self defense, not shield(s).
The method I described is a lot faster than going to safe mode.
No need to boot twice. (1x safe mode, 1x normal mode)
but a folder existing by that name that the system does NOT have access to will always disable the ability for Avast to install it in the future
You are absolutely wrong. It can always be (re)installed in that folder.
since the recent install was done without asking
That is because you did not do a custom installation
-
How can the system or avast install into a folder that the system does NOT have access to?
Without running attrib on the folder that is....
I had done a custom install and the safe price was installed later.....not sure why you have to keep denying the fact that I and others have seen this stuff come in without asking permission.

Because avast is not using the ATTRIBs to protect the folder/files but a method that is much more sophisticated.

As has been explained many times (including by avast members) the fact is that you gave permission.
-
I did NOT give permission to install any kind of price anything as I NEVER would do that since the affiliates that make the actual sales of the product deserve the affiliate commission, not have some sort of price popup....kinda reminds me of the old Gator days....
I also do not understand how Avast can over-ride folder permissions set by Windows Security on an NTFS Volume when ALL users including the system do not have access to said folder.

Go to your Browser ad-ons and remove the extension from there.

Hello.
For totally uninstall SafePrice Extension, i had to boot with my windows install CD, go to Repair, choose command and delete manually SafePrice folder :
rmdir /s /q "C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\SafePrice"
Then reboot and delete SafePrice registry key in : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Firefox\Extensions
Bye
-
Good info. I'm surprised you had to go to the OS repair console. Didn't disabling avast's self defence module
allow access to the folder ?
-
No, it doesn't work disabling Avast protection (i don't know what is Avast self-defence module). I have no rights do delete the folder even in admin console. I tried to stop the Avast service also. No way...
-
To disable the avast defense module :
open the avast user interface/ settings (top right) / Troubleshooting / uncheck "enable avast self defense module"
I believe this would have allowed you to delete the safe price folder without having to boot up in the repair console.

I have unistall SafePrice deleting the folder and doing what davexnet said but I don't understand why there isn't an option in the modification interface like there is for the browser SafeZone and the web reputation extension.

Yeah for SafeZone yes but I said for SafePrice.

Uncheck Enable Avast Self Protection Mode in Settings> Troubleshooting and allow the change.
Next go to C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast and delete the SafePrice Folder.

@ bob3160
Pilatos25 isn't asking about the option to remove the SafeZone Browser, he is confirming that is there, so why NOT an option to remove Safe Price.
@ Pilatos25
The browser add-ons AOS, (previously known as Web Rep) and the Safe Price are cunningly obscure and are in the Browser protection option. Not to be confused with the real browser protection, the Web Shield.
Unfortunately uninstalling the Browser protection option removed both add-ons.

So If you unistall Avast Online Security you unistall SafePrice too?
Is that what you are saying?

Effectively yes as this Browser protection module incorporates both add-ons. If you had previously deleted the Safe Price folder and contents then it shouldn't be possible to install that add-on.
That said firefox would certainly ask you for permission to install the add-ons, if you don't give permission they shouldn't be installed on firefox. I can't speak on other browsers as firefox is my primary browser.
-
Wouldn't it be easier to just cut to the chase and turn off the browser protection which makes these add-ons available in the first place?

You can turn it off in Chrome and/or remove it. In Firefox you can only disable the add-on.
-
The developers have really gone overboard and of you take notice a few of the regular posters here have a habit of talking DOWN to posters not discussing their concerns.
I did NOT give previous permission to these add-ons, and I went out of my way to remove them previously and sure enough safe price tried to re-install again tonight.
Avast got to where they are because independent tech's in the field recommended Avast because we could install the free version on customers computers and encourage them to upgrade to the paid version (knowing that even the free version worked well) and we did so because Avast did not play the games that others did with add-ons and spyware type commission stealers, but they have gone down that route.
Although I still use Avast on a few of my machines, I no longer put it on customers systems and opt for others.
Too bad I have been a loyal promoter of Avast for many years.

@ universal4,
Posting in old outdated topics is never a good idea since things change rapidly.
What was posted here has long since been addressed. :)
If you have a current problem, please start your own, new, topic.

I can't for the life of me figure out how to disable or uninstall Safe Price. The two previous posts on the subject do not provide the answer. Please help me get rid of it before I have to get rid of Avast altogether.
I had the same issue, and FINALLY got rid of it! I use Firefox, and there is no option for removing it; all I could do previosly was disable it.
Follow the instructions in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDCt8xQGFP0
One caveat: depending on our version of Windows, the folder you are looking for may not be in the "Avast Software" file. It may be in a file called Alwil Software.
If all else fails, do a Windows search for Safe*, and when you see the Safe Price folder, delete the sucker from the search screen.

An old video posted in response to an old topic doesn't help.
If you want to remove SafePrice, do it through your settings, select Components,
scroll down to SafePrice and select it and then select uninstall.

Remove what Avast dont know how to remove throught this path(its about removing net framework assistant):
http://www.ghacks.net/2009/02/09/remove-microsoft-net-framework-assistant-from-firefox/
only go down to 2.
Dont remove whats written here but remove the two avast settings there in registry: regedit in command-line (admin-rights needed or in admin-account.
Remove the add-on by deleting the {20a82645-c095-46ed-80e3-08825760534b} subkey in the Windows Registry. You find it for 32-bit systems in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Firefox\Extensions and for 64-bit systems in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mozilla\Firefox\Extensions.
-
That really is using a sledge hammer to crack a nut. Not to mention many users don't want to be modifying the registry.
As has been said an old topic is likely to have old information as program features/functions change.
In the current avast version 12.3.2280 - to remove the SafePrice browser extension - avastUI > Settings > Components and scroll down to you see the SafePrice browser extension.
-
Removing that registry key is not removing SafePrice, it only disables it from running in FireFox.
-
@ Michael1067
Not installing it in the first place would have been a much better move.
I always use the custom install where I can elect what gets installed and what's left out.

After this registry removal and first smartscan. avast closed after smartscan, Safe Price and Webrep wanted to be reinstalled. So you are wrong with only disabled in Firefox. I WAS RIGHT with registry removal. ITS GONE.
Maybe now i cant see details after a smartscan. see new thread by me.

The web browser where your save and other items are is a safeprice icon. Just wave your pointer over it and it will show you where it is at. It had covered one of my other icons. Safe price had taken over my browser where everytime I went to a sight safeprice would popup.....Its a damn shame that the company that is supposed to protect you from intrutions is the one intruding. I also cant get my automatic blocker to stay set or save my settings. Every time I leave to go to another site it is the same thing. None of this started happening until they said I need to upgrade and I was stupid enough to do so. Avast is turning into another market sellout!!!!!!

If you don't like or want it, just remove it as outlined in this topic.

Michael1067,
no you are not right.
Removing (or changing) a registry key never deletes files.
The files are still there, so it is not gone.
