I PMed Essexboy for you with this link.....while we are waiting for him........
Can you outline the scenario that led up to this ?
Example, did you have avast8 and did a upgrade over it with Avast 9 ?....versus a clean install ?

Did you have any other AV prior ?....example, AVG ?.....if so, did you do a clean uninstall/removal of that A/V ?

Hi,
@ thekoch, pm more then Essex, it's 10:30 PM where he lives.
@ dirkg, I'm seeing traces of AVG on your system... If Essex doesn't remove this traces, I recommend you do

Michael, thx for the tip......I did realize that but I wanted Essexboy to see for his morning.
Also, I saw OP had AVG in FRST log hence my question above......but if OP is locked out of safe mode how does he remove ?
I assume Essexboy would do this with FRST fix or OTL after he looked at FRST log.
Personally I would wait for Essexboy but OP could also try Last Known Good Config from F8.

We will initially try a restore point
Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press FIX
On completion try a normal mode reboot
