Greetings. In the past 2 days I tried to run a full system scan on avast and right about at 3-4% I get a blue screen and my computer reboots. Is there any way to solve this and find out what's causing it?
-
any other security programs installed......like more then one antivirus?
-
Nope, just avast.
-
attach OTL diagnostic log, then maybe essexboy can see the problem. http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
-
The OTL and Extras texts as you asked.
-
First thing to do will be to remove the adware... What file is Avast scanning when it blue screens ?
Please download AdwCleaner (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/) by Xplode onto your desktop.
- Close all open programs and internet browsers.
- Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
- Click on Scan.
- After the scan is complete click on "Clean"
- Confirm each time with Ok.
- Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
- Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
- You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.
-
I didn't notice which file it was but I can run it again and try to find which it is. I also run aswMBR. Here is the log. I will also download adwCleaner and post the log asap.
-
This is the log from the adwcleaner.
-
Could you run a scan please and see if it fails again
-
Alright will do.
-
Well I tried to run a full scan but I got a blue screen again, though this time the scan was on for a longer period of time. Also when the system rebooted, a check popped up. "Checking file system on C. One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency." After it was done the system rebooted again, and it started normally.
-
I wonder if Avast was trying to access a corrupted area of the disc. Did you notice the file or folder that Avast was scanning at the time ?
-
I tried but the files that were scanned were changing really fast and I couldn't get the one that caused the blue screen.
-
Panos93, did you re-run the scan after the Normal boot and after the disk check/repair ?
After the repair was done did you see if it had fixed items ?
I recall there is actual file (*.log or *.txt) located either on the "root" drive or the "Windows" folder that contain the info of what occured during the execution of the CHKDSK command before bootup.....however, this may be for XP O/S. Newer O/S there may be no log on the disk but rather in the Wininit Event in the Application Event Viewer. A thread on it: http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/96932-location-chkdsk-log-file-after-scan.html
Essexboy, run a CHKDSK from command prompt and see if clear ?
-
Nope, I haven't tried to scan the system again, but I could if you wish.

Nope, I haven't tried to scan the system again, but I could if you wish.
Essexboy should be back awake in several hours....let him answer.
In the mean time.....try to find the CHKDSK log that was created....either on the HDD or Event Viewer.
Best link to describe where to look: http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/96932-location-chkdsk-log-file-after-scan.html
Post the log........
You can also within Windows do a CHKDSK.....you can run without a repair (read-only mode) to just see results.
Go to Run Command (CMD)
Type chkdsk (Type "/" and the drive which you want to check with it, Example: chkdsk /C)
Wait for it to finish and post results
-
These are the results when my system rebooted and did the check. Do I need to do CHKDSK within windows aswell?
-
Go ahead and run it in Windows now in Read-Only mode and post.
It'll give Essexboy a before & after.....hopefully the "after" is "found no problems". :)
-
Well I run it, but the thing is it's on greek and I m not sure you are gonna get something out of it.
-
Tried to translate in the best way I could.
-
I would wait for Essexboy but if it was me I'd schedule another CHKDSK to run with fixes.
Assuming you HDD is C:.....the command is:
chkdsk /r C:
When you do this in Windows it will tell you this will happen during next boot....you'll confirm to "Schedule" with "Y".
Exit & Reboot.
You should see the Windows logo come up and before login screen the chkdsk will run.
Note, from time-time I've seen it not run and had to go into CMD prompt and set again, and reboot.
Once this runs and fixes the last items I'd do a full scan test in Windows and see if you get BSOD.
This is just my thoughts....I am no expert.......Essexboy is.
-
Run a chkdsk /r and then we will go for a clean boot and see if we can determine whether a driver conflict is occurring
-
Panos93,
Just in case another BSOD here is util to take look at minidump file.
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
I'm sure Essexboy can read the .dmp file but wanted you to have copy.
Also, you do want to check in Windows that minidump it setup.....sometimes it is not.
Go to Control Panel>System>Advacned System Settings>Advanced (tab)>StartUp & Recovery section>Settings Button.
Under the system failure section there are options.....select small memory dump, check directory where to be stored, also check box to create event in Event in system log. You can uncheck auto-restart if you want to see the BSOD error on the screen.....then you can aloways manually reboot after you've read/documented the BSOD screen.....heck I use my phone to take a quick pic. :)
-
Here is the log you asked from chkdsk /r.
-
Do you also need me to find that file?
-
Windows replaced bad clusters in file 215446 of name \RIOTGA~1\LEAGUE~1\rads\projects\LOL_AI~1\releases\0.0.1.71\deploy\assets\images\CHAMPI~1\PO2DB3~1.JPG.
I wonder if this was the problem
Does a quick scan now complete ? If not we will go for a clean boot
-
Haven't tried to run quick scan, only full scans. Let me try it.
-
The quick scan was completed successfully.
-
OK when you have time run a full scan and let me know if the crash occurs. No rush on this
-
Alright will do.
-
I did try to run a full scan before I went to bed. The thing is that at one point the electricity power crashed and pc shut down. Though I think this time the scan was fine, because it lasted 3 hours. I m gonna run it again today, and see if there are any problems.
-
at one point the electricity power crashed and pc shut down.
Is this a desktop PC I take it ?.....meaning no battery.
Do you have a lot of power outages where you are ?
If so, do you leave apps open and these power outages crash the machine while open ?
I ask because there is no "graceful" shutdown for a desktop PC with power outage or even power blip.
The O/S basically "crashes" and then recovers on boot.....but this can cause a lot of the chkdsk errors you see over time.
Where I am does not have outages but power "blips".......so I have a powerstrip that has battery and it comes with USB connection and small software app that I can set to shutdown the PC gracefully. The battery does not hold the PC up for long....say 10 minutes....but that is not my intent. I just want enough time to shut things down or if power blip the PC keeps running.....or if I am away the software detects power is off and shuts down PC nicely. Anyway, just a thought if you are not on battery. Which, BTW if you have a laptop/battery PC you need to change the critical power level alarm action to do a shutdown.....many times these just put in STBY.....this can save you if you are away when all this happens.

I am using a laptop.
OH....OK.....good.
Let us know if full scan runs.
-
The full scan worked perfectly fine. Thank you so much for helping me solve my issue guys!
-
In that case methinks I will send you on your merry way :)
Subject to no further problems :)
I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems
Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean
A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:
Download and run Delfix (http://general-changelog-team.fr/fr/downloads/finish/20-outils-de-xplode/9-delfix)
