Title: avast free 2014.9.0.2013 problems
Post by: mike_alt on February 21, 2014, 07:30:08 PM
Winxp pro sp3 on dual core pentium with 2 gig ram

avast free program 2014.9.0.2013
      virus def 140218-1

Comodo free firewall 6.3.302093.2976

On 2014-2-18 I received notice that an update to the program was available
and proceeded to install it.

At the end of the day I shut down and started pc up next morning. Upon
startup, I noticed that NISTTIME 32 doesn't work (worked yesterday) - tried
4 different servers - none responded. Also, when i try to synchronize with
time.windows.com - fails.

The utility can be downloaded from
http://www.nist.gov/pml/div688/grp40/its.cfm

Also, I use Thunderbird 24.3 for email, yesterday I was able to access
messages without a hassle, today I received a security exception pop-up
upon starting TB this morning.

Can you synchronie the date and time through the Windows Internet Time synchronization.

Click on the date/time in your tray>click "change date and time">click "internet time">then make your selection. :)

I can't update time through the date/time applet (time.windows.com).

Also the lay out of the applet for xp is different - see attachment time.jpg .

I noticed the box is unticked.
Tick the box then click "apply" then reboot.

I don't know what changed but update thru date/time applet is now working.

Some additional testing - using nisttime if the check box to use ntp format is unchecked - it works.

I usually use michigan, dc or nyc as they are the closest to me.
