I've been using Avast Free for years and today I started getting this message when updating my virus definitions. Nothing has changed on my computer so this has to be something with Avast. I'm not operating behind a firewall and I connect directly for updates.
Any clue what is going on?

- Which version of avast! Free..??
- OS..?? (32/64 Bit..? - which SP..?)
- Other security related software installed..??

Looks like a server problem as I am getting it as well
-
Good to know I'm not the only one having this problem.
-
I think Avast's server is down at the moment. I'm seeing the same issue.
Some more info:
The error refers to the URL http://v0831702.ivps9x.u.avast.com
When I ping "avast.com", I get a quick response. When I ping "u.avast.com", however, I get no response at all other than "Ping request could not find host u.avast.com". So it's not their entire domain that's down, just this one subdomain.
Unfortunately, I see no way other than this forum to alert them to their server being down. I don't like feeling unprotected.
Hopefully they'll realize their server's not working and fix it soon.

Same here.
"Error: HTTP server returned error"
Have tried 3 times. It's not you... it's them.
