Title: Avast slows my iMac down to a crawl.

I have installed Avast and the mail on my iMac has slowed down to a crawl.  Also, I no longer get messages off my mail server and when I send an email, it takes forever to go.  And mail also shows that it is receiving something like 20 messages, yet nothing shows up.  Just a bar showing it's working on it.  I dragged the application to the trash, but it isn't completely gone.  I say that because it indicated the definitions have been updated.
1.  Has anyone else experienced this issue?
2.  I clicked on the link showing how to uninstall from a Mac, but the page turned up blank.  Has anyone a working link to unintalling Avast on an iMac?

You have to reinstall Avast! again, then launch the application and from the top menu bar choose: avast!>Uninstall...

Avast application should be possible to uninstall with:
- top menu bar choose: avast!>Uninstall
- application in an installtion DMG
- drag&drop to trash (and a reboot for old avast versions)
