Title: Add apps?
Post by: Yezinki on March 26, 2014, 06:02:51 PM
Hi there,

Been away for a while and am back.

I have few questions:

1. Is it possible to install Avast Free with out the pc fixer, some thing like that?

2. Why does the Avast( Free) display 59 days remaining, current status Registered?

Hoping to hear from you as always,

Thanks!

Choose custom install and untick everything that you dont need.

Avast is registered for 365 days, so you need to re-register every year.

Just uninstall from control panel, then run Avastclear: http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avastclear.exe Cleanup Tool

If there is no folder in Programs just choose none, then run it and reboot.

Then you can install Avast again: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=147778.0 Avast Download

Be sure to choose custom and untick everything unneeded.

Its Tools > Grime Fighter.  Do I need to uninstall the whole Avast Free AV & custom reinstall?

Any Avast clean up tool before custom reinstall?

Thanks!

In the newest version you cannot untick things over repair.

Cleanup tool and Download of the newest version are in my last post.

And yes you need to use custom install and make sure to untick Chrome, Google Toolbar or Dropbox.

Go to remove programs and click on Avast then click uninstall, on the popup screen choose change and untick whatever you don't want - keep the 3 main shields on the left at minimum.

Gadget is desktop app to give notifications on avast status, not needed imo as there is already the tray app.

Untick it :)

Thanks craigb, what else is un required IYO, lie Grime Fighter etc, I have only checked browser protection, Software updater & secure line besides the 3 shields?

Does one need to run a Avast clean tool too before a reboot & running the exe?

Regards!

Personally I don't use any of the extras other that Browser protection which can also have problems on some systems so if you get browser crashes or slow browsing speed then you can still disable or remove that feature.

GrimeFighter I wouldn't touch If I were you, it's not compatible with many computers so I would recommend doing a lot of reading up on the feature before even attempting it.

Clean tool is only needed if you are wanting to do a full clean install ( no leftovers ) or have problems removing avast.

Thanks again, where is the clean up tool & how does one run it?

Don't you have software updater checked or have PSI for that?

Regards!

Will I have to uninstall, reboot and re install on my other machine?

Just transfer the avast installer file to a usb stick and move to the other system then install straight over the top using the custom install again.

Lastly while uninstalling it asks to turn off all the shields.....which I didn't and installed the exe on reboot?

Clean tool is here http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avastclear.exe uninstall avast first if possible then run the tool, it'll ask to reboot to safe mode to complete it's task so accept this and follow the prompts.

I manually look after my software, no need for extra tools and processes :)

Clicked on uninstall in CP > Add/Remove > pop window opened displaying  > Go to Settings turn off all 3 web shields ( which I didn't do) it removed Avast & asked to reboot the machine.

On reboot I installed this new version with custom install, checked only SW updater!

The clean tool will automatically reboot the system into safemode for you :)

Not sure what VP is ???

If it's working correctly then leave it be but if your unhappy/ not sure about it then uninstall it, reboot and then run the tool, when its finished reboot the system again and install new avast in custom mode.

Apologize for that just had a long flight from Orlando. Secure Line that's what I was trying to type.

Secure line is a paid optional extra for use in public Wi-Fi environments to secure your browsing, it's up to you if you want it or not.
