Hi all.
I had Avast running for some time with no problem. As of 4/5 days ago, I cannot boot into any form of Windows inc. safemade. When attemting safemode, I see that it is getting stuck at aswrvrt.sys and then the BSOD happens.
Please, if anyone can advise.
I did search, and I found the reply of Essexboy, but some of the links to the software seem to have expired.

Is this a 32 or 64bit windows 7 ?

Download the following three programmes to your desktop :
1. Rufus (http://rufus.akeo.ie/downloads/rufus_v1.3.2.exe)
2. Windows 7 RC I will PM the link
3. Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-recovery-scan-tool/)
Insert the USB stick Then run Rufus

Select the ISO file on the desktop via the ISO icon.
Press Start Burn

Then copy FRST to the same USB

Insert the USB into the sick computer and start the computer. First ensuring that the system is set to boot from USB
Note: If you are not sure how to do that follow the instructions Here (http://lifehacker.com/5991848/how-to-boot-from-a-cd-or-usb-drive-on-any-pc)
When you reboot you will see this although yours will say windows 7.
Click repair my computer

Select your operating system

Select Command prompt

At the command prompt type the following :
notepad and press Enter.
The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open.
Select "Computer" and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
In the command window type e:\frst64.exe and press Enter
Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
The tool will start to run.
When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.

Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please copy and paste it to your reply.

When booting from the USB, I keep getting a window titled Windows boot manager which says windows failed to start.A recent hardware.....
file: windows.system32.acpi.sys
status: 0xc000098
Info: Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt.

Was faulty USB, have tried another and now in process....

Initially I will try a restore
Download the attached Fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press Fix
On completion a log will be generated please post that

It really depends on what occurred just prior to the BSOD

Any reason you chose 2014-03-11 for the fixlist?

On windows Vista and up we are unable to externally invoke a specific restore point, so what I do is use the last registry backup to reset the system :)

Can you not do a system restore from Command Prompt in Windows 7 ? (eg. rstrui.exe,)

Also, not sure if OP had recovery CD but if so could he have used system restore point ?....attached example screen shot.
.....or is it that FRST being on USB stick (external) has limits ?

Nine times out of ten the system restore from the CD will either lock or freeze, so the last reg is the simplest method that is 90% guaranteed to work
