I live in the USA.
Aha, if you look at an atlas you will find there is a very big world out there, and most of that world is not the USA.
That world has different time zones, cultures, celebrations and customs.

Like I didn't already know that.

This whole thread has been one big speculation as what the answer should be to that big row of question marks.
The first of May as it came to be celebrated in parts of the globe originated from the US of A,
so a genuine USA invention. ;D
Socialist counties or better to say countries "on their way to socialism" copied it gladly later.
Now when the weather is right people use it to have a grill "na majówkę".
Could be an excellent grilled steak with a likewise superb sauce and grilled veggies.
Yummy to your tummy ;D .
Do not worry the streaming updates will continue in the mean time.

Actually I'm not getting "any" updates at all.
My guess is server issues.
@ -midnight There is no need to bring up the vps update issues in multiple threads.
You have been a member long enough to understand from time to time there will be server issues.
Nothing is foolproof.

Pardon me.

24 hours and still no VPS or streaming updates? What's going on with the Avast servers? This is ridiculous. I'm going to start looking for a better A/V program.

Hi -midnight,
Don't be so harsh on these hard working avast! team members and allow them that long weekend, including May 1st.
In Poland people also have the accompanying 3rd and 4th of May as an official holiday.
The May1st streaming update was produced on April 30th (it landed then)
and it was reckoned to be the first of the May ones, so you really should not worry. :D
When the May2nd streaming update lands on your comp,
I am sure you will have forgotten completely about switching to avg
or another of these second rate av proggies.
And some of the guys here will certainly miss you ;D,
and the forums will rather become a "dull" place for them. ;)

I've used Avast for many years so I won't be switching to AVG or any other A/V program. I doubt that anyone would miss me. :)

Finally..........
-
Finally..........
hi -midnight,
I know you posted this as resolved, but FYI below:
As you likely already know, the twice or thrice daily vps updates are not as important as they used to be. Remember versions 6 & 7? That's really all they had were the daily updates for protection back then. You had to sometimes wait quite a bit of time for your up-date-protection to be current then.
BTW, I've seen the same issue here, what with the daily vps being somewhat delayed, same as you, and have not even considered switching to someone else because of that delay.
Why is that?
I think they are sometimes fixing the daily vps on the fly (as it is being generally released and then pulling it off) and then releasing a corrected (fixed) version later. That's what I think is going on.
These daily vps updates have really become sort of moot, more or less, due to the advent of 100's of streaming updates in version 9. And along with that, there are those emergency updates that are issued several times a month, which weren't done before version 8. At the very least, with the emergency updates in place, and issued when needed, it is much less likely an avast! user will face the same or worse issue of having a clean Windows file detected as malicious when it is not. Thus your protection against major vps catastrophes is reduced.
Remember McAfee's major gaffe with a definition update that caused untold XP systems to lose their internet connectivity a while back? Everyone was affected, if they used any version of McAfee a/v and also used Windows XP, including major corporations. If that happened today with avast!, it would not be good for them at all.
I'd say for the average user, just-in-time protection (streaming updates) against new(er) or unknown malware has increased exponentially for all, at least since version 8 was introduced; with the old way of doing things, one had to wait up to 12-24 hours for that same protection they can get in minutes or an hour today.
Patience. At least this part avast! has got right. ;D

As mchain states,
