Title: Clean logs confirmation
Post by: Bogartbc on May 04, 2014, 02:51:55 AM
Webshield popup stating Avast blocked HTML:Script-inf from the website Christianforums.com in chrome.exe. I can not provide a screenshot as either the last popup log is gone due to a restart or I do not know where such an alert is logged. Aswmbr had initialize error 1 but seemed to finish, I have no idea what this error means. Beside this error all my logs appear to be clean although I have no idea how to read OTL logs. I just want a second opinion which is not from a program.

Thanks for your time.

Too bad. I am a bot.  :P (http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif) Levity aside, let's take a look.

Uninstall Java 7 Update 51 (64-bit) and download the latest version from here (https://www.java.com/en/download/).

Log looks clean. Are you facing any issues?

I have had no apparent issues. I just wanted to make sure the logs were clean as I need to do some financing online for my tuition. If you have any recommendations, support or information I need to provide let me know. Otherwise thank you for your help.

Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this (http://www.forbes.com/sites/eliseackerman/2013/01/11/us-department-of-homeland-security-calls-on-computer-users-to-disable-java/) article and this (http://www.nbcnews.com/technology/technolog/us-warns-java-software-security-concerns-escalate-1B7938755) article.
I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser (http://www.geekstogo.com/2600/how-to-disable-java-in-your-web-browser/) and How to unplug Java from the browser (http://krebsonsecurity.com/how-to-unplug-java-from-the-browser/))
