Post by: bri on May 15, 2014, 02:33:24 AM
I use avast premier and when I was at 50+ days left in my subscription I see a yellow banner(cant miss it) in the avast gui, reminding me how many days left? Are you for real? That far away from expiring and im being notified?50+,why not put it there at 365?Seriously how about 10 days or so,or better yet get rid of it.

hi bri,

Running AIS here, and just went thru the same thing you are seeing now.  Open the gui, see the countdown to expiration.  At least it wasn't a nagging daily popup toaster, never got that.

Not a big deal here as I was able to wait until within the last 24 hours to renew the subscription, and by doing so, got 36(6) days, an extra day, on renewal.  Didn't want to be annoyed by the notification, so didn't open the gui anymore than I needed to, which is less than once a day, or three-four times a week at the most.  Situation we're looking at is an avast! user that uses their system maybe once a week or so, so they're covering that user scenario little bit ahead of time in case that is the case, or the user is out of town for some reason or another and not using their system because of that.  Better a little early than too late.

The way the renewal licence process works is it is effective on the date of purchase, and not on the day you activate it.  Your year-long protection begins when you buy the licence.  So you would want to wait until the last minute to purchase the licence so as to get another full year of protection and activate it at least a couple of hours before the old licence expires.  That way you should get your 366 days.

I understand they want users to renew b4 the subscription expires but theres no need to put that yellow banner in there that far away from the expiration date,no need.I know its not a big deal as it doesn't nag anyone but I don't want to see that in the gui.

In the free version you get your first warning at 60 days, then nothing until 30 days and the banner does a countdown, but I don't it that intrusive as I don't regularly open the UI.

That's fine if they want to put that kinda stuff in the free version but I don't have the free version installed. In fact it doesn't really matter to me anymore since i will not be renewing as im not liking the direction avast is heading in.Ill leave it at that.

My point in question is that the first indication, be it 50 or 60 days, doesn't mean it is going to be flashed up (own popup) every day and the banner in the UI is less obtrusive. If it wasn't for the forums (investigating issues) I would very even look at the UI.
