Title: Webshield and proxy dont work together
Post by: vespatian on July 18, 2005, 02:57:43 PM
Hi, I am in a residence behind a university proxy server that requires authentication. Getting avast to update was no problem as I changed the proxy settings.

However, when I am surfing, I have some problems. I cannot access my gmail or hotmail accounts and get the typical white error screen in IE. Similar problem with Firefox.

When I terminate all resident shields, I can then access gmail and hotmai... Is this to do with https:// pages? Can I resolve this problem?

Thanks

avast doesn't check SSL (https) connections they are encrypted, secure, so it would kind of defeat the object of SSL if avast could check it. There are some hoops to jump through before you can check gmail search the forums for gmail and stunnel as this has been previously discussed. You may have even more hoops to jump through because of the Uni situation.

I would also suggest you wait until you have resolved the other issue you have with the duplicate providers, before resolving this.

You need not terminate all resident providers only web shield has an interaction with the Uni proxy and there are ways to integrate this.

Check out this link - http://www.avast.com/eng/webshield_issues.html#idt_6870 - this should be the same for your Uni proxy. There are other points in that web page which may relate to your other hotmail issue.
