Title: problem with firewall pop up

hello. im a newbiew.
Picked up a rebuilt Dell Optiplex w/ windows 7 pro, retiring my old E-machine w/ XP. The machine was used commercially to audio test equipment. Overall I like the system. I run Avast Internet Security. The problem I am having is I keep getting a pop-up stating "The firewall has detected one of your networks and has automatically changed the firewall mode to: private/low risk. the networks are Verizon LLC and (Intel{R)

I lose internet connectivity when this happens and it is very annoying. Any help or thoughts are appreciated.

What exact version of avast?
Did you disable the windows firewall and av before installing avast?
How do you connect? (cable, wifi?)
