I just installed the Avast FREE 2014. I believe when I was installing I clicked on Register (but did not have to input any info). Now when I click on the Avast icon lower right of screen and click on "Registration Information" I see a screen that says "You are registered." And that my expiration is 8/11/2015. Is that possible if I did not input my name or email account? I thought I had to input my name and email account in order to be registered?
And that i would get a "license number" or something like that that I would have to input somewhere.
What am I doing (or have done) wrong?
Am I registered or not? How can Avast determine when my registration expires if they don't know who I am?
P.S. I did a Quick Scan and it took 60 minutes. That is much longer than other AV Quick Scans I have run. Why would it take 60 minutes?
Please advise.
P.S. It is so very, very hard to read the verification numbers. I had to try and try again.

It sounds like you have the Trial version registered. Complete this form and have it emailed to you: http://www.avast.com/en-us/registration-free-antivirus.php (http://www.avast.com/en-us/registration-free-antivirus.php) to register it for the non-trial version (free).
If you just did a fresh install, the first scan may take longer than usual. Future scans will go quicker unless you tweaked the settings.
Let us know if you have any additional questions. Thank you.

The verification is only needed for you first 3 posts.
It seems to me that you have/had other av(s) installed.
Make sure you have removed it (them) completely.
Uninstall through control panel is not enough.
Tools/instructions on how to completely remove a av:
http://www.ache.nl > malware? > remove (old) av
60 minutes is not all that long for a quick scan.
The time depends a lot on the settings you have.
e.g. Content or not, all file or not, rootkit scan or not etc. etc.

Thank you. If I was using Trial version why did I get that message saying I was registered for one year? I went to the site you mentioned to register and it mailed me a registration code, but it then tells me to go to Settings / Registration and click on offline. But there is no Register Offline on that page. It just shows the same screen I originally had (which is the image below). What is happening?

I don't understand. What happens next (or in one year) if there is no way to notify me of expiration?
-
Who say you want be notified?

Who say you want be notified?
What happens in one year? How can Avast notify me if they do not have my email address. How will I know when my registration is about to expire?
I am getting very confused.

You will get a notification closer to the time from within the program when you need to re-register. The Registration section in your image also changes (with 30 days to go) to allow you to re-register.
-
You will see lots of notification pop ups in lower right corner before time runs out

Maybe by next year, registration of the free version will be a thing of the past and no longer required. :)

Therefore, according to the image I posted above showing "You Are Registered," means I have to do nothing else and that I can use this Avast for the next year, even though I have not sent my email and/or "license key' to Avast?
#1- Is that correct?(
#2- Has anyone else heard of this happening before?
#3- I hope I do not have the Trial version, as mentioned in one of the posts.)
#4- Does Avast update automatically? If so, can I switch to manual updating?
#5- BTW: If I wanted to install the Avast FREE on my other computer, which would be the correct site to download the Avast FREE from?

Hi,
yes we are now testing this simplified "registration" without requirement to enter email address.

Disabling the auto-update is not a good idea.
Your system will not be protected as it should/can be.

Thanks. Improvements on simplicity :)
But, hmmm, won't it be good to make avast! account mandatory?

This would be wonderful since so many users have had problems. I can't thank you enough! :)
