Title: Avast WebShield 9.0.2021 breaks compatibility view in IE
Post by: REDACTED on September 19, 2014, 07:32:18 AM
Hi

I've got a very strange problem on friend's computer since it upgraded to 9.0.2021 (automatically).
Of course he uses the Avast WebShield in IE, but ever since, some webpages do not work as expected anymore.
All of those pages use the compatibility view which is normally in IE7-Quirks mode. However, since that update when going to that webpage, it looks differently each time it is refreshed. Sometimes IE goes into IE11-Compatibility mode, sometimes in IE5, very often also the character set is broken and the page displayed in CP-1252 instead of UTF-8, but the real effects often change from refresh to refresh.
Just disabling web protection does not make any difference, however disabling the avast plugin in IE instantly makes a difference; the page is displayed correctly again.
Also since I first assumed an IE-Problem, I've deinstalled IE11 and wanted to reinstall it which always, repeatedly failed until I disabled the Avast Plugin, after then it worked flawlessly.

Unfortunately I cannot state the page since it's in a password protected webapplication.
Is there a Problem with 9.0.2021.112 in this respect??

Thanks
Seldor

Hi seldor! Why are you using IE5 and IE11  ??? Uninstall IE5 and keep IE11. As for the Avast plugin go to add/remove right click on avast select change. You will then have 4 tabs on the left Update, change, repair, and uninstall. Select change and click continue and make sure you untick browser protection and select continue it will uninstall browser protection for you. At the end restart your computer manually.

Hi
Thanks for your reply. You didn't really read what I was writing. I was not talking about running IE5 (I'd actually like to see how you could get IE5 to work on Win7 :D ), I was talking about IE5 compatibility mode. I also do not want to uninstall the plugin but rather to get it to work correctly again!

It's fine. Sometimes people dont really read what they are writing :). Just uninstall the avast plugin. For few years now and still users are experiencing issues with the avast plugin. Best just to uninstall it.  :)
