Title: avast! for OS X does not install: "Incompatible Software found"
Post by: REDACTED on September 19, 2014, 08:24:57 AM
I would like to give avast! for OS X a try. My Kaspersky is removed with the tool from the Kaspersky website. After that, I could not find any trace of Kaspersky on my system (Library, Daemons, etc). But I still get the enclosed error.

Where does avast! searches for traces for incompatible softwares?

Thank you for your support.

Hello,
avast! installer checks, if there are loaded kernel extensions of other antiviruses. In case of Kaspersky:
com.kaspersky.kext.klif
com.kaspersky.nke
com.kaspersky.kext.kimul.44
com.kaspersky.kext.mark.1.0.3

If so, there is reported an error and the installation is terminated. Kernel extensions can be listed in a terminal with a command kextstat.

Thank you very much for your answer.

This was exactly what I needed. The official uninstall application from Kaspersky did not remove the kernel extensions

/Library/Extensions/klif.kext
/Library/Extensions/klnke.kext

Now the installation of avast! was successful.

Again, thanks a lot!
