Title: Need Help With Resident Protection

I just installed Avast.  The Resident Protection is disabled.  I followed the directions to enable.  It isn't working.  I am not a genius with computers.  Can someone tell me what to do?  I have read great things about Avast.  I want to use it and get rid of Norton.  Please help!

First, be sure of being completely free of Norton Antivirus. More info here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=12583.msg106379#msg106379

1) Remove NAV through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
2) Use Symantec removal tool (browse their site to get it, there are one for each antivirus series). Boot.
3) Install avast! Boot.
4) See what you get.
