Title: [Solved] [BUG] RC2 Home network security
Post by: Andrey,pro on October 15, 2014, 03:02:14 PM
Hello Avast team,

I've a default password on my router (admin/admin), I did a scan with Home network security (HNS) and it said that my home network is well configured. After I logged into my router's web-page I did another scan with HNS and it warned me about weak password. It's looking like HNS can't detect my password before I'll type it.

If it would be easy to check what password is set on a router, what would be the use of setting one?
Besides that, there are many routers/modems each with there own firmware and ways to store a password.
If HNS would be able to check them all, it would mean that it would know all routers/modems and all default login details.

Eddy, I don't agree with you, it's not depend of router's firmware, you just need to have a dictionary with default or weak passwords (smth. like 1234 or qwerty) and check if this password matches.
It's one of the main goal of HNS to check if your home network is secured, but if I have a default password and HNS will say your home network is well configured users will think they're secured.
