I don't think there were any date set yet.

It will be a minor build,so don't expect anything big.

Have some patience, please. You would have to use almost the same unimproved program until you buy another version of it if it was Norton. This one is FOR FREE, has FREE PROGRAM UPDATES and it's BEST ANTIVIRUS EVER CREATED.  ;D

Right, there are no super new features planned for this update (that I would know of).
One (in my opinion nice) improvement you may be looking forward is the possibility to "Move to Chest" in the boot-time scanner.

When it will go to leave the new version avast?  It goes to possess new icons as:  resident protection, web shield and the other icons?
Title: Re: New Version 7xx
Post by: igor on August 23, 2005, 01:05:54 PM
joooo, as was already told multiple times - the release date was not set yet, and it is not known what changes will be included. There is really no point in asking again and again.
Title: Re: New Version 7xx
Post by: RejZoR on August 23, 2005, 01:24:59 PM
joooo, they don't give any fixed dates. They tell us more precise date of final build release when when we get the beta version and when we kill all known bugs in it.
And even then we can't be 100% sure that they won't delay anything.
Also more info will be given when beta is out. So be patient and wait :)

It was spoken that it goes to leave version 5 avast.  When goes to leave version 4.6 build 7xx?
Title: Re: New Version 7xx
Post by: igor on August 26, 2005, 01:26:20 PM
joooo, once more: it is not known yet.
avast! 5 may be released in a year or two - nobody knows. New build of avast! 4.6 may be released in a month or two - but that's just a guess; nobody will tell you more right now, it's really useless to ask again and again.

Ok expect the next avast update on the 23rd of December 2005, but until then monitor the forums were any release will be announced and you won't have to keep asking.

Patience is a virtue.

I have a suggestion for the next version.
Change that message that says:
6 providers and 4 are running, change for:
activated protection in real-time.
It would be better.
Title: Re: New Version 7xx
Post by: DavidR on August 27, 2005, 08:07:29 PM
It requires less to say 6 providers for translation 'activated protection in real-time' is very long and I believe would require the same explanation of what that meant.

Not to mention when you put the number in front of it looks strange '6 activated protection in real-time' because protection in this context is singular.
Title: Re: New Version 7xx
Post by: joooo on August 27, 2005, 08:48:16 PM
Then, all anti-virus are of this skill.
activated protection in real-time.
This sample that all the protections are activated.

Joooo, I kind of hope Avast folks keep the current version and when the new beta is in early stages, they invite you as a beta tester as early as possible, secret from us.   :P
That will make you happy maybe?

So we keep using what is stable and working fine, that is most important ;)

Anyways I would not expect any radical changes in the user interface and such when going to 4.7. What will be new in it, will sure be behind surface, so to say.

But now you at least asked a sensible question.

Avast as it now is, is a very good working antivirus. No need to ask for what comes in the new release some day. Even developers might not know and sure not to tell us beforehand.

I love this thread, and I like our friend Joooo. True, he likes to ask a lot, especially when he asks same questions many times and all of that in the same week... but... we all have to agree, Joooo is one of those wonderful people. He likes to ask and that can be really annoying sometimes, but the truth is - he is one hell of a guy and one hell of a personality... never ever felt insulted or anything, never took any of those comments we made (myself among the others as well) like it's some kind of teasing or something like that. He always comes back acting calm, and he always brings a lot of smiles (not laughs, but happy smiles) on our faces.

Joooo, with all his pros and cons (exactly as all of us) is a wonderful person and my hat always down to this guy !

I am sure many in these forums will share similar if not exactly the same opinion with me... This thread should be pinned... true, it may sound as nothing so important and nothing that stands out of all other threads... but still, this thread and this forum member made us all feel nice and smiling for a change. Joooo, probably accidentally did that, but he did it...

Thanks Joooo and thanks to everybody in this forum ! We should have more moments like this one.

Regards !
Sasha

Joooo you are very welcome, and believe me, we all know that language differences and barriers can be very difficult sometimes... but I totally understand what are you asking. It's just, sometimes there is no other way, than to wait for a respond from Alwil guys. I mean, they are the only guys who know exactly "when", "what" and "where"  ;D

I'm sure they will respond some time soon and we all will be informed what's cooking next in their kitchen  ;D I am sure they are about to change some things and we will be informed on time.

Cheers !

Of course we do but were not telling ;D

With such a small point update 4.6.691 to 4.7.something it would be extremely unlikely if there were any huge additions (or any additions to the current list of providers).

There are a number of threads that have asked this question but information is both scattered and limited. I love surprises but for sure you will hear about it in the forums probably in the Alwil Software Announcements or avast! 4 Home/Pro (beta) forums. It is likely to be released as a beta release, first in the forums.

They've promissed avast! 5 when Windows Vista would be realeased.
But now I'm not so sure... Only great and huge improvements will take the version from 4.6 to 5.0.
Maybe we can expect surprises  8)
In fact, we can even do not have a 4.7, a 4.8 or a 4.9 versions  ;D

I know that because of the way that Vista new User level security works, AVs may/will also to work differently. So the current best guess for Vista release to Gold (retail consumer version) is the end 2006 but I wouldn't like to bet on earlier than the start of 2007.

In either case that could mean a long wait for version 5 of avast! if they are waiting on MS to finalise Vista.

Really? That's rather new to me.
I mean, compatibility with Vista doesn't seem a really huge issue to me (to increase the version number more than just changing the build) - so, I'd say these 2 things are completely unrelated.

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=15858.msg134546#msg134546

Well, it's not officially released yet - as the U3 devices are still not available for purchase. That should change in about a month, I think. (I hope it's not that classified now cause we showed them on VB2005 in Dublin during the last week - and people seemed quite interested!)

What will be the next surprise?  ;D

If I'd tell you, it wouldn't be a surprise, would it? ;)

OK, there'll be a new driver - but that's not a reason for such a huge version jump (at least for me), since the functionality will be probably the same or similar as the current one.

The official website also says (http://www.u3.com/news/pr/091905.aspx): "U3 smart drives will begin shipping on Oct. 15 from global brands: ..."
I believe the launch was even postponed a little, but I might be wrong.

What we need for a major version jump?

New functionality, for example? :)
Well, I'm not the one to decide about the version numbers, I just think that a new driver, that would provide the same functionality (as it was on the older platforms) for a new OS, is not really a new stuff. Anyway, I think it's not important what the version is labeled - but rather what it can do ;)

The official website also says (http://www.u3.com/news/pr/091905.aspx): "U3 smart drives will begin shipping on Oct. 15 from global brands: ..." I believe the launch was even postponed a little, but I might be wrong.
Hey... Someone promissed I'll receive it as a gift for Christmas  :'(
When reading this he will know and remember  ;)

Well, I'm not the one to decide about the version numbers
For sure we, the users, want features, improvements and not only an increasing number version for nothing...

Vlk also mentioned you were working on improved Blocker, but nothing since then (very long time ago). I really miss any form of proactivity in avast! (apart from Internet Mail which i don't use) and current Blocker is completely useless except disk format block function.
