Title: Cancellation and Refund Request
Post by: REDACTED on December 06, 2014, 10:35:19 PM
After trying to prevent my license from auto-renewing (and failing), my account was billed for a product that I no longer desired. I have no problem with Avast, I've enjoyed the product for a few years, but I simply no longer require it. It took too long to find out how to turn off the auto-renew (very well concealed, by the way), and I was billed.

I have submitted a ticket (GEI-572-42717) and was informed that it would be seen/addressed within 24 hours. It has been over a week and I have had no response other than the automated one below.

"Colin ******,

Thank you for contacting us. This is an automated response confirming the receipt of your ticket. Our team will get back to you as soon as possible. When replying, please make sure that the ticket ID is kept in the subject to ensure that your replies will get to the right place.

   Ticket ID: GEI-572-42717
   Subject: Cancellation and Refund Request
   Department: .Refunds
   Type: Issue
   Status: Received
   Priority: ReplyNow

You can check the status of or update this ticket online at: https://support.avast.com/Tickets/Ticket/View/GEI-572-42717"

To summarize; it is my desire to cancel  Order # 12525690000, cancel my existing license, and to be refunded the full amount charged for the license I did not actively purchase.

I would appreciate your swift resolution of this matter.

Thanks in advance.

I to am having problems with this lying company, I have submitted three refund requests with the result that they said I would receive a email in a weeks time telling me that I will be receiving a refund, but then it will be four to six weeks to place it in my bank account.

I too am having a problem getting a refund. My last ticket was submitted November 24. I have not gotten any reply other than the automated one. I will never deal with this company again.

I have had the same problem.  I have been asking for a refund since November 21.  I am afraid they are stalling because then they will not have to give the refund because it will be over my 30 days.  I have submitted ticket after ticket, and have begun to tell everyone I know to avoid buying anything from this company.  I was nice in the beginning and now, I am about to start blasting social media with negative feedback on this issue.  Funny, you can't call customer service and talk to someone about getting refunded.  You have to submit a ticket, what kind of business is this?  I am done with this company and everyone will know about it.  I am also going to call the Better Business Bureau and let them know off this issue.  I am even willing to go to my news stations and see if they can help get my refund.  It's a very significant amount and everyone should know how they deal with their customers.

It has now been over two weeks since I submitted my (single) ticket, and the only response of any kind that I have received has been other people reporting similar experiences on this post. I did exactly what was suggested; search and read about similar circumstances, create only a single ticket, include all of the relevant details, be polite, and exercise patience. This hasn't worked.

At this point I am more than a little disappointed. I've had absolutely no response, of any kind whatsoever, from Avast. There is not a snowballs chance in hell that I'm going to ignore this or simply forget about it and move on. I'll have the refund that I am legally entitled to by virtue of having tried to cancel before the license went active and by being inside of the 30 day guarantee window.

My frustration is compounded by the fact that the people who submit multiple tickets, post incoherently, use profanity, flat out lie, or are just generally dickish at least get some kind of response.

Can someone who is in a position to give me any real information (or in a position to actually do something) please do so.

I'd be most appreciative.

@cehughe22 I have reported this topic on to the Mod's so hopefully it gets seen too promptly, allocating support to address these refunds certainly needs to be improved.

Good luck, I was charged 49.99 to my bank account and I dont even have the computer anymore. I called and tried to get refunded but was informed on the phone that they only do refunds online and I had to open a support ticket. Guess what? To open a support ticket, you need an order ID. I was never supplied with one when they renoved funds from my account. I had tried to turn off automatic product renewal and got so frustrated with it. Avast will not refund you, absolute thievery. In the process of starting a small claims lawsuit and a report to the BBB. Their system in place is a dishonest way to make it impossible to get your money back. They lost a reliable customer here and I will tell everyone I know to boycott their products

Maybe not when they renewed but you should have one with the first order?

It doesn't matter if you have the system anymore nor if you have still avast installed or not.
You took a subscription and you will have to pay for it as long as it is valid.

Ofcourse you got a order ID, it was send to your email along with the license file/activation code.
Next to that, you can also see it on your bank statement (or in you paypal account or whatever you used to pay).
The only one to blame for not having it (anymore) is yourself.
You should keep your administration in order.

Besides opening a ticket, you can also contact the payment processing company to cancel the auto-renewal.

If you are entitled to it, avast certainly will give you a refund.

I've been having similar issues with getting a refund it's been over a week and no one has contacted me. Is there an actual phone number I can call?

There is the first problem already.
If you send multiple tickets, you will be put back to the bottom of the stack (FiFo)

Second problem is that the support department at avast is really busy, making waiting times increase.
It can take 10-15 business days before they respond.

I sent two tickets because I had two different products and I wasn't sure if I could put both product numbers on the same ticket.

hi

I have tried to request a refund and cancel my subscription but I cannot login because my email addresses do not match any on the system. But how can that be so? The money has come out of my account but I no longer have the laptop that it the product is registered to. Please advise how this can be rectified. Thanks

@ Eddy,
The following is much easier to post and may even make a friend instead of antagonizing a customer.  :(

Clearly it isn't much easier, otherwise they wouldn't need to ask. Not everyone is going to get a good (re)search even if they tried, the forum search function is poor to pathetic (unless you get the right search string) and many simply don't know how to use Google and the site search function.

So just copy and paste a canned response (I'm sure you have your own in a text file) with a URL, that should take no longer than what you are saying and it helps the user directly.
