Title: Anmnoying pop-up on Thunderbird screen
Post by: REDACTED on December 27, 2014, 05:19:03 PM
Can anyone tell me how to stop the pop-up that comes up on my email screen every time I try to read my email trying to get me to download Avast security into the Android device I do not own?

Here's a screen shot, the annoying pop-up is in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Short answer in the free version of avast you can't - there is an option to stop these promotional popups.

The popup is there even if you already have the Avast Mobile Security app installed on your android phone - there is no way for avast to know if you even have an android phone - so it isn't specifically targeted.

I have avast free and this didn't used to be that frequent, but of late it is getting more frequent. However, it doesn't bother me that much on my 1920X1200 screen.

However, I'm just browsing, etc. and it doesn't get in the way - if you are gaming I can see it being a pain. If you are full screen games should block this I believe. Or try setting Silent/Gaming mode in the avastUI > Settings > General section and see if that helps.

Thanks.  May have to try another AV program, it's really annoying.  I have a rule, I never upgrade to a paid version of anything that uses intrusive advertisements to get me to upgrade.

Good luck on finding anything free that's less intrusive and does as much to keep you safe. :)

You're welcome.

Personally I have been using the free version for over ten and a half years and I wouldn't upgrade for anything other than there are features that I need.

Did you try the silent/gaming mode suggestion in my post ?

The AMS popup is indeed annoying. I'm getting it every single day on all my devices even though I already have AMS installed and registered with my account on an Android device...

Even clicking the link in the popup doesn't prevent the popup the following day.  :o

Time to start looking at a tweak of avast5.ini to see if it can be killed.

I have to admit I haven't seen this in relation to Thunderbird (on both my systems) only I guess when a VPS update is happening in the background.

Email sent asking for a way to shut it off. Especially if you already use it.

This has been resolved. The popup has stopped. :)
