I say no, there's enough antispyware programs already. alwil  should just work on more detections for avast!

You are right there are plenty of antispyware products out. But avast does an excellent job with viruses. If Alwil made an antispyware product that was just as good then they would be a better known company.

I want ALWIL to provide a firewall rather than an anti spyware tool.
Now we have some excellent freewares of anti spyware, so that ALWIL may compete with them if providing an anti spyware.

Recently some firewall vendors were acquired by anti virus vendors.
They are probably thinking that a combination of firewall and anti virus is very important for their future business.

Sygate and Tinny are gone, and Kerio discontinues their personal firewall.
So it is a good timing of providing a new firewall.
Furthermore, ZA Pro still conflicts with avast! Web Shield.
avast's users will use a firewall provided by ALWIL if it has good compatibility to avast! AV.

We can get freewares of both AV and firewall, and ALWIL gets a chance to grow their business.  ;D

avast! can detect a few spywares, but I think avast! should just stay as an antivirus product.

There were some rumors about alwil looking into a firewall but that's for alwil to decide. :)

Sygate just belongs to Symantec, it is still free and where did you get the idea that Tiny is gone?  I just check their website and they still offer their free firewall.   ???

You can just disable the privacy controls on Zone Alarm Pro.  Alot of users here uses Zone Alarm Pro with avast! and they 're having a good time.   ;D

They should hire more people and make an antispyware/ad ware program and firewall and  OS and maybe browser. How about chat programs and CD burning software.
ALWIL is your feature.Our feature    ;D ;D ;D

BTW firewall is a good suggestion

Spyware is just one of the many kinds of malware.
Creating a application that just seeks and delete spyware is like bringing 1 bucket of water to the ocean.

I don't want standalone avast! antispyware.

I want avast! itself to be a Unified Threat Product by detect and eliminate virtually all kinds of malware (viruses, worms, trojans, adware, spyware, phishing, etc.) at the same level of priority, not only emphasize on some kind of malware.

When trojans, adware, spyware, phishing seem to be more and more dangerous and widely spread in to day internet environment, it's not an excuse that antivirus should restricted itself at viruses or worms.

If I want to buy malware protection solutions for workstations in corporate network, I want a single Unified Threat Product that plain/simple/reliable/stable/cheap and extremely easy to deploy/update/manage rather than standalone antivirus, antitrojan, antispyware, personal firewall.....  :o :o :o

The example of Unified Threat Product is Fortinet's FortiClien - http://www.fortinet.com/products/forticlient.html

Haha, gooooood one chocholo !!! Haha...  ;D  ;D  ;D

While we are at that, I recomend Alwil guys open one of those sell-sex sites, and one of those casino sites... of course, they must contain all kind of viruses and trojans, plus millions of pop-ups. Sure it would make Alwil different than any other AV company...  ;D  ;D  ;D

I would say No, they should concentrate their efforts in the specialist AV arena and not try to become a jack of all trades, master of none.

There are numerous freeware antispyware programs so devoting time and effort, not to mention expense to compete with the likes of MS antispyware, AdAware, Spybot S&D, etc. would seem futile and a waste of time and money (that could be better spent on the core product avast! anti-virus).

I would say yes.
The technology is very similar. Sometimes it's not easy to separate what is a virus, a spyware... malware they're called. Registry and files, scanning and cleaning, all this technology is available. It could be a differential between avast and other antivirus. There is not a chance to it became a bloatware this way.
Other applications for free? Until when? Small companies are more and more being bought by the big ones and every dream is becoming a nightmare...
I vote for yes.

David,
I have to agree with you. :) (Sorry Technical  ;D)
I got rid of Norton.   Don't want another one no matter what it's called.

Alright, I'll check into that, thanks Iso.  I google around but there isn't any news about Sygate Personal Firewall  being discontinue.  I'll still check on that.

Doubt that its gonna be free, I don't really like a big bundle security suite.  I'm just wondering how much RAM it might consume plus if avast! is gonna have a firewall and/or antivirus, they might have a security center too like McAfee and Norton to organized their products and it does take a  bite out of your RAM.

that is true unless they were to organize them into different programs completely.

A google search for  "Sygate Personal Firewall" being discontinued (http://www.google.com/search?num=30&hl=en&lr=&q=%22Sygate+Personal+Firewall%22+being+discontinued) returns hundreds of hits.

Well not being discontinued at this time but it may be in the future. Maybe symantec will not discontinue sygate since it is a very famous firewall they might want to keep it into business and use it to replace norton personal firewall.
Title: Re: Avast new product

I doubt that Norton will replace their firewall or any of their softwares, don't forget that there are over thousands of users worldwide still using Norton Products like the security suite. :)

That is true. Although the way norton is now i don't think it will last much longer unless there is a big improvement in the 2006 products.

I agree that he has one anti-spyware.
It will be very good will have added avast home and professional these tools, all meetings:  anti-virus, firewall, anti-spyware.

even if alwil did the others are most likely right that alwil would most likely make a security center like mcafee or norton. They also would probobly not be free.
