Title: Avast! cannot scan the message body
Post by: Walker on November 04, 2003, 09:42:05 PM
Folks,

I received a spam message using Outlook. I'm not too used to Outlook, usually preffering Pegasus.

Anyhow I got the message ...

Avast! Cannot scan the message body
  Error code is 80046300

The message 'looks' harmless, any ideas what this is all about?

Thanks for any info.

Walker.

Some setting could be blocking the scanning...
How I hate error codes! What's the meaning of 80046300 or any other number??

Isn't there a TOP and a RETR command involved in downloading messages in Outlook.  TOP retrieves the headers information and RETR receives the entire message.  I think.  Could this be a clue?

Much simpler question - does the problem appear even after reboot? This error code basically mean that the avast engine is not connected to the Outlook plugin. This could happen e.g. if you restarted the avast antivirus service (ashServ.exe) while having Outlook started...

Yes, ... Avast is loaded prior to Outlook.

I'm totally off topic.  For some reason I thought you were receiving messages with no message body.  Disregard and sorry about the confusion.

You had a problem (as described bellow), hadn't you?

I just think if, after Vlk explanation, you still have a problem. Did I write something strange?  ::)

Are your system configurated to Heuristics analysis (Internet Mail Provider)?

avast! can check the HTML part of a message (body). Some viruses make use of bugs in some mail programs (especially unsecured MS Outlook and Outlook Express) that make it possible to start the virus merely by viewing the message in preview pane. avast! checks whether the HTML code of the message does not contain a tag enabling such a trick. If yes, the warning message will be displayed.

Take care! See you round...  ;)

If anybody wants to configure Spamihilator and avast! to be used in the same computer, please, see this related forum (http://www.avast.com/forum/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=1622).
