Hi,
So for the past week avast service under processor would randomly takes 95-99 of my cpu causing me unable to use any program and i cannot terminate it in the task manager either. I would be force to restart and from time to time it would repeat this.
I currently have the following avast install:
Avast free 2015
Program version: 2015.10.0.2208
Virus definitions version: 150226-1
Numbers of definitions: 3.503.119
At this rate, I feel i need to switch anti-virus even though avast currently one of the best there right now.

Have the same maxed out CPU issue from time to time. Not happy.
Also noticed an anomaly in my Account information that states I do not have Home Network Security installed, but I have a paid licence for Avast Premier that is completely updated. Clicking the red segment in the account space from within the Avast application recommends an 'Upgrade' that takes me to a CNET download page. The page wants me to install Avast Internet Security 2015!
Not very happy please explain.

yuena91,
First update to the latest version and see if that solved the problem:

If not:
- Boot the system and wait e.g. 30 minutes.
- Do nothing on the system in that time, just let it boot/run
- Is the cpu usage normal after this time ?
If so:
- Boot the system
- Open as soon as you can taskmanager (ctrl-alt-del) and check if there is a instance of svchost using a lot of cpu time
- If it is, check what process it is hosting.
- If it is dnsrslvr, shutdown that instance of svchost.
- cpu usage should be going back to normal
old_nerd,
please start your own thread and provide details.
Although the symptoms are the same, it doesn't mean the cause of it is.
