Title: My missing Ball
Post by: Wirraway on October 01, 2005, 01:49:15 PM
Hi my first post here, I have just installed Avast 4 and cannot see the ball beside the clock, I am using xp pro/sp2, also use spybot and ad-aware, I have tried rebooting to no avail, went to add and remove and tried repair still no result,
as I am 63 years old it is probably something I have done wrong in the installation
of this software, Yes I have registered it as required, should I uninstall it and try to install it again? or is there something I am obviously doing wrong, any help would be appreciated.

Hi my first post here
Mine not  ;D

Went to add and remove and tried repair still no result
This should work...

I have registered it as required, should I uninstall it and try to install it again?
No problem, you can use the same registration key.

Do you have any other antivirus in your system?
Do you use any monitoring application like ProcessGuard, TeaTimer, WinPatrol, etc.?

Hi Tech

Yes now you come to mention it 'Teatimer' is on,  would it help if I took it off?

Thanks for the quick response.

Update: Now have ball and everything seems ok.

uninstalled avast booted reintalled and booted 2 times without success, then
figured Spybot was the problem so uninstalled it, 3rd time lucky reinstalled avast with no problem at all, now later I will reinstall spybot and see what happens.  Has there been a problem running avast with spybot at the same time?  thanks again for the help provided.

Has there been a problem running avast with spybot at the same time?
No, not one at all.
It will work if you 'disable' (not uninstall) TeaTimer while installing avast. I do recommend doing this IF you trust the program if you're installing. TeaTimer could avoid startup entries (like in this case for ashdisp.exe, the avast icon), specially at shutdown (reboot) time.
