I own avast internet security 2015 license.
updated to ver. 2015.10.2.2214
but also with the previous version gave me the same problem.
windows 8.1 64bit
new computer, with mcafee pre-installed. uninstalled with mcbr properly.
After that I installed avast, but blocks all downloads from google chrome, virus updates (says host unreachable), opening the pages and images internet malfunctioning.
the only way I can make it all work is to disable avast internet security:
- web scan
- firewall protection
- dns protection
it's like not to have practically nothing on.
I tried with another pc, putting avast with the same basic settings, and everything worked properly. I also reset the computer's operating system on new computer, and also tried uninstalling avast with safe mode and the tool avast.
did not work anything.
please help.

"Host Unreachable" will usually suggest that there is a routing issue. The datagram delivered to the network specified in the network ID portion of the IP address may not have been able to get sent to the specific host indicated in the address.
You may want to take a look at this: Destination Host Unreachable - Reasons and Solutions (http://www.corenetworkz.com/2009/05/destination-host-unreachable-reason-and.html)
-
It can be caused by malware.
I suggest to start with this:
https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
If nothing comes up, at least a possible cause is ruled out.
-
as I wrote, it is none of these things (though I had already tried an anti-malware software) but some setting or something related to antivirus, because it caps off in real time, that's all back to work
anyone have any idea what can be? it is not possible that I should turn off the three guards:
Web
dns
firewall
to run my system normally
-
but the diagnostic logs (FRST) from the guide eddy linked to may help .... essexboy may spot the problem ;)
-
you're right, here it is.
antimalware
farbar recevery
aswMBR
-
essexboy should be online in about 2-3 hours ;)
-
He is on-line now I have sent him a PM and informed of your topic.

-
yes, sure.
re-run the mcpr and restart the pc.
then , here the result from the toolbox
-
Hmm it is pinging google OK
Could you go to control panel > internet options > connections > lan settings
Ensure that it looks just like the screen shot below.
OK out and try again
-
yes, it's the same.
could be useful if I re- disinstall/install avast?
I tried by safe mode (this is third time) and this previous Avast version seems functioning:
avast 2015.10.0.2208
virus definitions 141107-0
definitions number 2.745.363
I tried a few downloads and all was ok.
now I re-installed the last version:
avast 2015.10.2.2214
virus definitions 150310-1
definitions number 3.648.316
and nothing work -.-
is that possibile?
-
Could you clear all the rules in the Avast firewall and see if that does anything
-
Done.
Ma nothing changed, unfortunately.
-
I wonder if there are still elements of the mcafee firewall there as it is allowing the older version to run
Install the older version while I have a thunk about it
-
I was thinking the same thing.
But I must make a correction to what I said before: unfortunately now using the previous version of avast (I always run a clean install with safe mode, etc.) nothing works, as in the recent version.
Since it is not possible to occur by chance, I think more than anything else that It worked before, because it came to download files already downloaded previously.
so..in the final moment of the download , when it saves on hd, maybe the file was using the temporary memory to save itself properly. is the only plausible explanation.
ultimately avast still does not make me do neither
- download files
- navigate anywhere on the Web if there are images or banner pages,
- update drivers or utilities to download from the internet
perhaps some elements of mcafee are still present.
Should I try to contact mcafee support?
-
As a test temporarily disable webshield, does that have any affect
-
Not.
If I don't disable all 3 protection (firewall + dns + web) nothing change
-
I think I solved the problem.
But I'm tryng all features to be sure at all :)
I was thinking about what we said of mcafee software... so I installed mcafee technician software (it is created to repair eventually problems generated by mcafee)
the result was that I found two scripts damaged and error on ssl2 and ssl3 certificate, and at last a revoke priority certificate error.
I resolved all problems and now all works.
so if anyone have problem with mcafee disinstallation, download the mcafee technician eventually.
it may be useful
-
So all is well now ?
-
yes. I can say all works.
I checked all things that didn't work previously and all is ok.
download now function (i tried 10 of them)
internet navigation is fine and banner or images are just perfect
upload and updating software now works.
also windows update didn't work previously and now is all functioning.
finally! :))
your help was really useful! I think I would have not resolved nothing if it wasn't for your help.
thank you very much
I hope this information could be useful also for anyone with same problem
-
Nice to know they have a tool to fix the problems, I will bookmark that one
Subject to no further problems :)
I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems
Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean
A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:
Remove tools
Download and run Delfix (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/delfix/)
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:
CryptoPrevent (http://www.foolishit.com/vb6-projects/cryptoprevent/) install this programme to lock down and prevent crypto ransome ware
(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/73555776/CryptoPrevent.JPG)
Malwarebytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php).
Update and run weekly to keep your system clean
Unchecky (http://unchecky.com/)
Click on the link above to be taken to Unchecky.com
click the very large Download button.
click Save
Click Open folder
Right click on the Unchecky_setup and choose to Run as Administrator
Once open click the Install button.
Then click on Finish
Unchecky is now installed and will help you keep unwanted check boxes unchecked, this is a fire and forget programme ;)
It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.
To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read this little guide Best security practices (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/407147/answers-to-common-security-questions-best-practices/)Keep safe
-
I spoke too soon.
I updated Avast and windows with windows update and now the problem has come back.
the problem here is NOT solved :(
Now I clean in safe mode either AVAST that mcafee with their programs, clean the registry with wash-and-go and also passed the adwcleaner (which has absolutely NOTHING found)
I also found .manifest files survivors of AVAST and I have manually deleted (making a backup elsewhere)
I now have a perfect and spotless installation of avast.
if the problem persists ... and unfortunately for now persists ... the problem is related to Avast internet security.
-
Does this occur in all browsers ?
-
Yes it does :(
today i had also a BSOD blue screen (probably related to avast protection, if you ask me)
ATEEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NOEXECUTE_MEMORY
I was searching info about this, and I read that often is related to avast and real time protection by it.
How could be that Avast does nothing about problems of its software like this?
-
As to it being Avast related it may well be a conflict. As I have Avast running on XP, 7, 8.1 and 10 with no problems
Let us see if there is a conflict
In the search box type Msconfig and select the programme that appears at the top
1.In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, click Selective Startup on the General tab.
2.Click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.
NoteThe Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.
3.Click the Services tab.
4.Click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box.
5.Click Disable All, and then click OK.
6.When you are prompted, click Restart.
Does Avast appear to block the net now ?
-
I'm very disappointed in this ..... but IT WORKS!
avast is also really faster
(after last 2015 update, responce time of avast was slowed especially when I disabled all protections on the tray icon)
but with this, avast works fine and download and internet too
Where the conflict problem could be?
I think that could be one of Asus app pre-installed from the beginning (factory preset) on my pc.
In fact avast problems are from the beginning.
https://rog.asus.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-57906.html (https://rog.asus.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-57906.html)
I HAVE the same problems and pc of these guys
I found it on internet while I was trying one by one deselecting the Asus stuff I told you.
Asus game first could be the culprit.
Right now, I'm trying to disinstall it and try.
I'll tell you if all work tomorrow :)
-
OK now is the boring bit to determine what is conflicting
Run MSConfig again and enable half of the disabled services and reboot
Is it all working normally ?
If so go into MSConfig again and re-enable half of the services left
Reboot
The aim is to isolate the service that is conflicting with Avast.
Once it is located could you let me know which one it is
-
maybe I found it :)
Asus game first
read the link I posted :)
-
Yep that could well be the culprit reading that thread
So all is hunky dory now ?
-
Yes ! finally all is working fine.
Also Avast is faster.
Maybe should I report this compatibility issue to asus or to avast?
It's a bit boring beacuse this is a program that Asus pre-install into new notebooks or new bundles,
so is difficult to be awary that the problem is generated by Asus game first :'(

Unfortunately most Manufacturers install Bloat or Crapware:
