Title: AshwebSV using 99% CPU
Post by: r03922 on October 10, 2005, 03:25:30 PM
I have been having problems with the AshwebSV at times using 99% of CPU and really slowing up my computer.
Is there any way to fix this problem?
I am using Windows XP, Avast Version 4.6 Home Edition. Pentium 4 CPU 2.80 GHz, 512 MB of RAM.

Any help would be appreciated.

My computer is also suffering from very low system resources recently.  It runs very slowly.  I haven't checked it out but guess it is because of my avast!  (Home edition).  Sometimes the computer even hangs for one minute or so.  Are there any changes in the programme and/or virus file that have caused the problem?

My machine runs on Win98.

Please, which is your firewall?
Are you using the Trial or Pro version of avast? If so, did you schedule a scanning?
In Home version, are you running a scanning in background?
Which is your sensitivity level (High, Normal or Custom0?

I am running Zone Alarm 5.5 Free Version

I am running a scan in the background.

My sensitivity for Web Shield is set at normal.

I am running a scan in the background.
So, what do you want... ashServe.exe is both the resident protection and the scanning running in background.
Scanning is a very huge operation in resources. You can disable the scanning of archive files or run it at night...

I have the computer hang (freeze) for anywhere from 30 seconds to as long as a couple of minutes or so, but it usually always free's up.  Apparently this is your experience.

There is another thread regarding this hanging for WIN98 OS's (see below)

In my post I had noticed this for some time before I had installed Avast and seemed to me to follow a Microsoft (MS Security Update I had installed.

Have you done any MS Security Updates for either Internet Explorer or WIN98 OS, recently ?
