Title: How long does SMS stayed backed up?

If I delete from my phone SMS messages that have been backed up by Avast, will they eventually be deleted off the server, or do they stay there until I delete them directly off the server? I have too many SMS messages on my phone and I think it is starting to affect performance. I need to delete some text messages to resolve that issue, but I want to retain the texts somewhere. Will Avast retain them, or is it like a backup service similar to Carbonite, which will detect that the data is no longer on your device and it will delete it from the server as well? If it will delete them off the server automatically, can anyone suggest an app that will retain the texts for you even if you delete them off your phone? A nice bonus would be if the app also backs up MMS messages.
