Title: Send Messages to devices
Post by: REDACTED on April 01, 2015, 08:49:55 PM
Hello,

Is there a current location a sent message applied to a specific device via the portal will show up for the end users (i.e, notification tray, prompt message, etc.).

I've been testing this so we can notify end users of updates, scans, and other implements that will be applied via the portal, however, I'm currently unable to locate/see the sent message I've been applying on the end users device.

Thanks

Hi Carlos

Although it will normally take a few minutes to be sent, you should be seeing messages pop up @ the endpoint in the taskbar notification area

Regards

Mike

Mike,

I've yet to see any notifications or messages show up on the endpoint device via the taskbar notification area. The portals task history is showing that messages have been sent successfully but as I mentioned, no indication on the endpoint  device.. Confused  :o

Thanks for the help.

This "Send a message to the device" just does not seem to work? Task shows it as being completed successfully but no notification on the end point devices, this leads me to question anything else that is created via a task..  :-\

If anyone one has seen or confirmed a message notification on an end point device it would greatly benefit me to at least know it's WORKING.

Thanks.

Update: Avast is aware of this issue and is working to resolve as soon as possible. They are working on a release note section for the site to keep customers updated but I'm not sure it will be live anytime soon, will request this to be added to the Portal as well -"Release notes".

Thanks Mike for the input as your the "Lone Ranger".  ;D

After reading this thread, I thought to try it out myself. I believe I'm getting the same 'no message' result, but I noticed that I can use the "show last popup message" option to retrieve the test message. If I recall, those Avast popup message are small boxes that raises up from the bottom right corner of the screen for only half a minute. Not really a great way to send important messages to all devices unless you change the duration time for popups, or have all colleagues to regularly check for new Avast messages.

P-chu,

For some reason I don't have the option to "Show last popup message" as it's grayed out, I haven't tested this since my last post but will soon try again and post my results here.

I have seen many Avast popup messages at the bottom right hand corner with the free single client version as you mentioned, notifying me of updates etc. but when completing a shutdown task I get a prompt directly in the middle of my display (very hard to miss) so that got me wondering if they'll be implementing the message task that way as well. I guess well soon find out once its functioning as it should.

P.S this shouldn't be a primary notification function, however, would be a great tool to utilize if needed.

1. The "Show last popup message" popup is only available if you haven't rebooted since the last message, otherwise it would be greyed out.

2. It must actually be an avast message relating to the program (alert, etc.) - I have noticed this, if you get what is a popup ad/info/promotion style popup. That isn't considered a program related popup, in which case the "Show last popup message" will be greyed out.

3. the popup you are getting in the middle of your screen is different (if you can post a screenshot of it, that will help) and I don't believe that would be covered in the "Show last popup message" function. Since you are doing it at shutdown, then on restart that option wouldn't be available even if it were recoverable using the "Show last popup message".

This was more regarding the "Send message task" not working correctly but thanks for the added information.

1. Thanks for updating me on when the "Show last popup message" will be available.  A completed "Send message task" is still not being seen at the end point device and also not available via "Show last popup message" (without a shutdown after the task is completed) :'(

2. This was just one example on how they would implement the "Send message task" because as of now it's still not working (for me that is).

3. This wouldn't need to be present via "Show last popup message" as like you mentioned it's after a shutdown. And the shutdown notification works as it should, meaning it's currently notifying the end user with a notification prompt unlike the "Send message task".

You're welcome.

I will try to attract some attention to this topic and hopefully one of the avast team can pick up on this, as I have no personal knowledge of the Avast for Business (cloud) product.
