I don't want to see the spam bar in my Outlook 2003 so up to now I have been deleting the asoutext.dll file in the Avast program folder. I would prefer an option to check but Avast seems determined not to implement this.
However with the last programme update a few days ago, I can no longer do this. I get a permissions error even though I am the administrator.
Does anyone know how to get rid of this file under Windows 7(32)? or is there an alternative way todisable this unwanted feature.
Thanks
John

Thanks Pondus.
I don't see where that link shows how I can turn the Spam Bar off. I don't want to turn off the Mail Shield for obvious reasons, just the Spam Bar.
Sorry if I have missed a detail here.

Thanks for your help but I have been Googling this problem on and off for the past year. If I had found the solution, believe me, I wouldn't be wasting my time and energy posting here.

When you choose the remove option, the next time you open an email it's back again.
As I said, the solution used to be to rename or delete asoutext.dll but that no longer seems to work.

I've seen people remove it by simply right clicking the toolbar and disabling it.

This has been know about for a long while with people posting get rounds. Details got lost though it seems, when the old Avast forum got hacked. I don't know how to find those posts now.

Any thoughts on this from the Avast staff?

Here is old link.........you saw the Reg Edits ?
https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=100431.0
I've never seen this Outlook ToolBar but I only use FREE versions.
What exactly is it ?
-
Got a reply on my ticket, thanks Avast for the swift reply.
Suggested solution was to modify setting but these weren't available on the free version.
So had to modify the registry as per these instructions.

Hope I haven't disabled Avast and it is still checking for viruses.

Maybe you need help interpreting the instructions. They should be available in all versions including the free version.
