Title: After recent update, 2GB hard drive space taken up by Avast
Post by: REDACTED on April 04, 2015, 08:53:50 PM
I had delayed doing a program update for a week or so. Last night, I finally did it. It seemed to be alright at first. Then, I had the NG service using as much as 50% CPU intermittently causing my laptop temperature to hike up to 60+ degrees with both internal and external fans on. Mine usually runs between 38 and 47 degrees.

I did some searching including on this forum and decided to install the beta version after exporting my settings. When I did a custom installation, it was pretty barebones and NG wasn't even an option. I'm running Vista. After restarting my computer, the NG service no longer ran and temps were fine but when I opened My Computer, I was shocked to see how much space was gone. Not a big deal on my other computers but I don't have much to begin with (70GB) on this laptop as it's mostly for browsing and it was in the red.

The Avast5 folder in C:\ProgramData is taking up 1.41GB. In that folder, the bulk of the size is from the log folder (1.37GB).

The Avast5 folder in C:\Program Files is taking up 467mb. There's a setup folder taking 238mb, the font color is blue. The defs folder is using 103mb.

I noticed that there's an empty Avast4 folder in C:\Program Files. Could a previous upgrade have affected the beta installation I did last night? Obviously, Avast isn't supposed to be taking so much HD space.

Should I uninstall, run some type of cleaner then reinstall? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Program version:   2015.10.2.2215

NG is virtual machine for running processes separately from system and for Sandbox and SafeZone.
Try modify your setting for Sandbox and Clear SafeZone: Settings-Tools-SafeZone-customize and at the bottom Clean SafeZone.

I do not have a lot of experience with it and maybe it will not help. Maybe even advise a some moderator.
