Title: Web Shield option

With Web Shield, there is an option:  "Do not scan trusted sites".

I am wondering where I should check this or leave it unchecked.

Please explain.

There are no such things as trusted sites.
A site can be safe right now, but can be malicious within a couple of seconds.

So, all sites need to be scanned, right.  I will leave it unchecked.

Whilst the trusted sites is controlled by avast - e.g. you can't just add sites to the list - so they would have to be major sites of a known status. Should one or more become hacked/infected avast would have to A) monitor this and B) remove them of the list.

I'm a trusting sort NOT and I want all sites that I visit to be scanned.

You only have to read the papers and other media to see major sites getting hacked, etc. etc.

The benefit of not scanning a very limited number of sites considered trusted (at this time) would also be very limited, you may not even visit some of them.

Yes, but why does the Help say in its explanation?
"Do not scan trusted sites - Sites with SSL certificates are not scanned"

Does it mean, "Don't scan any sites which are on Avast's Trusted list"?

Or does it mean "Don't scan sites with SSL certificates"?

Or does it mean "Don't scan any sites which are on Avast's Trusted list AND which have SSL certificates"?

Sites with SSL certificates are not scanned = the description on what the option does/means.

Not all SSL sites are safe. I am as bad as David I "don't" trust any website.
I have used various online scanners more than most people to have learned to not trust websites.
SSL websites can and have been exploited in the past, present and will be in the future.

Leave that box "unticked". Let avast scan every site you visit. The old saying is true today "Better safe than sorry".

Mutlilayered defense is the best option.

You can view webreptation using WOT via Google before you go to a new website.  See sig below.  It is additional protection for you, you install it in the browsers you use.

WOT is strictly user based. Avast"s Online Security combines user reputation reviews plus Avast Lab input.
It certainly doesn't hurt to have both. :)
