WHat is going on with this error.

What was the exact error?
Have you had another anti-virus installed?
- if so, what was it and how did you get rid of it?

Switched my computer on this morning and also had ths RPC error.. does the wired world have the answer one wonders? :-\

Turned the computer on and noticed the sign on the Avast icon... nothing else!

Error states: the AAVM detected an RPC error. I am unable to open Avast

AAVM subsytem detected and RPC error.

Function setface update packages has failed return code 0x20000004 dwres is 20000004
Error- AAVM initialization error aavm start avworkinitialize failed ooooA413.
I just did a system restore and the error has ceased ( for now?)

RPC error is generally related to other antivirus present or, at least, firewall blocking. RPC error may also be because of avast! services being stopped. Anyway, RPC error is most likely correct by repairing avast! installation
Also, take a look into Administrative Tools > Services
and see how the four avast services are set to start (automatically or manual).
