Title: Deleted file from e-mail acct
Post by: Redandsassy on November 15, 2003, 04:24:16 AM
Some of my attachments are being deleted from reliable sources.  I am finding out that most of them are word documents.  They are very important documents and I am unable to get them.  HOw can I change avast to make sure I get these? :(

Redang,

Avast does not normally delete email.  If it detects a virus, you will receive a virus alert and options as to how you want the "infected file" handled.

The Outlook/Exchange module in the On-Access Protection does allow you to have Avast discard infected mail unconditionally, and the Internet Mail under Heuristics will allow you to enter Permitted Urls.
These settings are found under the Customize tab in the respective module.

Unless you changed the default settings, then Avast is not responsible for the deleted email.

Why do you suspect that Avast is deleting the email?

It might help if you let me know what email client you are using.

I am using outlook express office XP pro  prior to this i was using pro 2000.  when someone sends me a word document attachment it says OE has removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail.  I don't understand why this is happening.  It only does it with extensions of .doc

Redan,

This is DEFINETLY not Avast!  Your settings in OE need to be changed.

Go into OE...Tools....Options....Security.
Remove the checkmark next to "Do not allow attachements that could be .......

This should take care of the problem.

Good luck,
techie

Thanks techie for your help...
For those who need techie in next week, he will be on vacation...

Try another forum users to get help to this computer messed world  ;D

Redandsassy, techie is fully right. This behavior is always related to OE settings and not avast!. Unless you have the Pro version and specific set this action (delete file) into the task configurations.  ;)
