I am having trouble with the Browser Add-In scan in Avast 10.3.2225 running under XP in both Firefox and Chrome. When I first install either browser all features work but as soon as Avast runs the Add-In scan I can't fill in some entry boxes for things like email addresses or credit card numbers. It's not every entry box on a screen either so its hard to figure out why.

Since both of you are running an OLD OS, I'd suggest that you allow Avast to be your Antivirus program
but not use any of the tools now a part of Avast. Those tools apparently don't work well with Windows XP.

Ok, so under SETTINGS/Active Protection/Web Shield I set the control to OFF.  I still have the File System Shield ON and the Mail Shield ON.  How do I turn off the feature that analyzes browser plug-ins??

NO, webshield is your first line of defense for anything malicious on the internet.
My comment was about the tools offered by Avast such as:
Scan for browser add-ons

No - Bob is talking about disabling only elements in the Tools section of the installation and not the three main shields.

See image example (tools section is the area, he is talking about) taken from a custom install of an earlier avast version.
