I've registered for the full/free home use of "Avast!".
In the about window under 'registration key', it say "Expiration: never" and then "Updates Expiration" and the date.
Isn't that a conflict? What will happen on this date 1 year later? No more updates. . .although it never expires? Can someone tell me more about this?

Dear MacGyver (ehm, fake ;)),
let me explain this: we issue the HOME keys with the following properties:
- expiration of the program: never
- possibility of updates: 1 year from issue date
After the year, you need to re-register to get a new key. This is just a routine check that you're still actively using the software - the registration process takes no more than a minute or two :-* so I really don't think there should be any problem ;)...
Since we've been providing the free service already for about 18 months now (> 1 year), lots of our HOME customers would certainly testify that it really works as described - i.e. they got a brand-new key after re-registering on our pages.
Hope this helps,
Vlk

Ah, I see. ;D
It just sounded a bit confusing to me and I thought that, perhaps, I didn't enter in the registration code correctly.
Thanks for your help. I've really pleased with "Avast!"; it's speed over Norton's is super.

Note: update expiration is set to 14 months for Home Edition license keys...
