Title: avast uses suspicious email addresses
Post by: REDACTED on July 04, 2015, 08:23:55 PM
Hi all,

this morning i noticed some suspicious looking email addresses on my avast "homepage" ( i'm not sure what it's called, so I've attached a few images to clarify)

has anyone else noticed these email addresses? should i be worried about them?

Welcome to the forum. :)
It's the email address you used when you signed into your my.avast.com account.

thank you for the welcome and for the reply :)
well that's really alarming. because I don't know these email addresses, and I've certainly never used them to sign into my account.

This email address is what you used to create your my.avast.com account, it is the account that this device (installation of avast) is linked to.

So it looks like you made a typo when you gave your email address and then possibly again as that email should be the one you setup on the my.avast.com. It is at the top right of your avast User Interface to show what it is linked to.

The strange thing is your having two different email typos there as that would indicate having two my.avast.com accounts.

My avastUI is correctly showing my email address, obscured for security. I would suggest now that you have got the message across, delete the images (modify your post and uncheck the attachments) if these emails are close to your email address, bar the gmail typo.

hi thank you for the reply, like i mentioned earlier: these email addresses are completely unknown to me. the "gmai.com" and "gamil.com"extension are often linked to emails that scammers use. i have never used these addresses to sign into my avast account.

YES this is exactly what is alarming to me. i have avast installed on 3 of my computers (I've attached a picture of my third computer now as well) and all 3 of them show a different "scam-y" looking email address. these email addresses are completely unfamiliar to me. so this leads me to believe that possibly my account may have been hacked.

i don't mind showing these, since these emails are not mine. so in this case what would you suggest i do? should i uninstall and reinstall avast on all my computers? or should i notify avast that i never signed up with any of these email accounts?

I haven't come across this so it is somewhat difficult to suggest a course of action.

When you use your browser to logon to your my.avast.com account, what devices can you see ?

in "all devices" i only see: avast internet security.

i'm not sure if this is relevant, but perhaps i should mention that even though I've had avast (free version) on my devices for several years now, i wasn't aware that i had an account. just this morning when i tried to create an account to post my problem to these forums, i was told that my email address is already in use. that's weird i don't remember avast ever asking me to create an account. so i clicked on "lost my password" made a new password and now this is my first time signing into my account.
