Title: Problems since update
Post by: alicia.rose on July 17, 2015, 01:42:59 AM
Please help!

I updated to build number 2015.10.3.2223 Avast Free today......webshield is suddenly blocking numerous pages - Google, Mozilla Data, even Avast Forum!

"Avast webshield has blocked access to the following page because the certificate is invalid"

I have had to disable all shields because I cannot open Avast to disable or sort out the webshield - nothing happens when I click on it.

?

I am using XP and an older Firefox browser ESR 24.8.1 because I have problems with later / plug-in container.

All was fine before I updated.

UPDATE

My computer just refused to shut down, had to manually switch off, that never normally happens. Received a: "This program is not responding" for Avast - clicked end now, nothing happened. Think I need to remove Avast and re-install what I had before for now (the previous version), should I do so through Add/Remove Programs or use a removal tool and where can I download the previous version please?

You have to update your system first. XP ain't supported by MS any more and the software vendors are also dropping support for that. The certificate invalid issue can be due to wrong system clock.

Well, the best thing to do is Upgrade to Windows 7 or 8.1 or wait for a few more days and upgrade your system to 10. That will solve half of the issues you are facing on your system.

Charvin.....Thank you for your post. I have read here that some other users have had the same problem with this update. Avast are still supporting XP and promised to for some time!

Pinned in this forum under AVAST 2015 R3 (2015.10.3.2223)

AVAST 2015 R3 (build number 2015.10.3.2223) has been released:

New features and Improvements in Avast 2015 R3:

StreamFilter with HTTPS scanning  is now available also for Windows XP/Vista

I need help from an Avast specialist.

Hello Asyn, Thank you for coming to my assistance.

XP SP3, 32 Bit

I previously had Avast Version number: 2015.10.2.2218 installed......I just updated it.

No other security related software installed.

Please see: Avast! Web Shield Problem topic......seems others have had this issue too.

1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions..!!)
3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.

Thank you Asyn,  :)

May I ask which version that download is for. Think I may wait awhile before reinstalling 2015.10.3.2223, as others have had the same problem as me and download 2015.10.2.2218 for now.

It's for the latest version, but a clean reinstall should fix your issue.
If not, please report back.

I have followed all your instructions and carried out a clean installation.

Unfortunately the problem remains.

Attempted to come back here...

"Avast webshield has blocked access to the following page because the certificate is invalid"(Avast.com)

I have disabled webshield......please help.

Seems to be related to your outdated version of FF ESR...
Disable HTTPS-Scanning in the Web-Shield and reboot afterwards.

Thank you very much for your help and useful instructions Asyn.

Yes, I think you are right - I also have an up to date Firefox ESR browser installed (31.2.0), which I am now using with all shields on - no problems encountered so far, accessed here and Yahoo Mail without being blocked or intercepted, as before.

I'll try to stick with this, but will disable HTTPS-Scanning in the Web-Shield if I have to go back to the other.  :)

@alicia.rose,
Are you by chance using the extension HTTPS-Everywhere in Firefox?  If so, this could definitely be causing the problem.  Disable the extension, and restart Firefox.

Thanks for helping John.....no, I am not using that extension. The problem in my case seems to be the outdated Firefox browser.

The same thing just happened to me today as to you, Alicia Rose, and my system is similar to yours. So thanks to you for posting about it and to Asyn for that last piece of advice: disabling HTTPS scanning in the Web Shield worked for me.

I appreciate the advice of the specialists on this forum so much. You help me keep my antiquated system running; and there's a sense of accomplishment when a workaround succeeds, one that isn't there when I just pay someone to do it for me.  :)
