My Avast Pro Antivirus 2015 subscription is expiring soon and I'm not going to renew it, as I no longer need the paid option - I will be fine with the Avast free antivirus version. So I wonder what should I do to switch to the free version? Or will it happen automatically if I do not renew it?
Also, I'd like to try Avast SecureLine VPN and I wonder if it will work with the Avast free version?

First thing to consider are you signed up to the Auto Renewal as it will renew your subscription and payment ?
When it runs out use windows programs and features to uninstall avast Pro, you should be prompted if you want to drop back to avast free.
I haven't used Avast SecureLine VPN, as far as I'm aware it is possible to have it with avast free. I don't believe it is linked to any avast paid version, as it is a separate payment.

When your paid version of Avast expires, you can simply uninstall it.
Do so will will give you an option to return to the FREE version of Avast.
It's a lot easier than doing a clean install. :)
