Title: problem, avast scan says "mise r jour"
Post by: liberben on November 15, 2005, 07:47:07 PM
I have a problem with the avast scan.

It's written " mise r jour " with an accentuation on the "r"....
What's the problem?
Is it due to any virus ?

The answer of this message can be in french or english...

Maybe it's just a typo...
Can you post a screenshot of that message?
I think it's not related to any virus. Avast interface could has this typo, if it's there, it could be corrected in next versions.

Try a different skin, please - many of them are available here (http://avast.com/eng/skins.html).

There is a problem with the default (ALWIL) skins, made by Martin. They use a special embedded font (to look "nice" and to fit the texts into their fields); unfortunatelly, it's only possible to include one font charset - which was chosen to be "Eastern Europe" in this case. It covers most European languages without much troubles - but some letters, e.g. the French à, are not displayed correctly (because they are not contained in the charset). There's not much we can do about it - it's possible to include one charset only (at least I think so), so for custom fonts the problem will always appear somewhere.

There are 2 possible solutions right now:
1. Put the value ExactFontCharsetMatch=1 into the [Simple] section of avast4.ini (I know, another key for you ;)). The font will be replaced by a system one (Arial, I guess), with the correct charset. The characters will be displayed correctly - but the skin will look rather nasty, because the letters are way too big (that's why the custom - very narrow - font is included).

2. Use some of Sasha's skins, downloadable from our web. They all use a system font (i.e. they don't contain any special included) and are tuned to look fine.
