Title: Avast is preventing Lastpass browser plugin from functioning properly
Post by: REDACTED on July 30, 2015, 09:00:40 AM
Since last thursday Lastpass was giving me an error saying "There was an error logging in on Lastpass. Please Check your internet connection". It is doing this both in Chrome and Firefox and when I disabled Avast for a while, I did NOT get the error. I found this out after trying out a bunch of other things, such as disabling the other plugins, reinstalling Lastpass and even Chrome. So how am I going to prevent this error from popping up? Can I add it to an ignorelist or something, or is this a bug that needs to be fixed? I never had this problem until last thursday, july 22 2015.

OK, does it work if you disable HTTPS-Scanning..?

Nope. Still getting an error. I'm now also getting the error that lastpass couldn't connect with the login server. I can use Lastpass but with limited functionality and then later it still kicks me off. I added Lastpass to the list of exclusions and everything looks ok now but I don't know for how long. Will let you know if I run into the error again.

Just a brief note here regarding LastPass.

During the past 40 minutes, the LastPass servers were down for about 20 minutes, but are now back up.

Regards,

Ahh ok, so that other error was related to the downtime. But adding the website of lastpass to the exclusion list seemed to have helped but I will know for sure tomorrow since this only occurs after 6-8 hours of being logged out.

Adding Lastpass to the exclusions list didn't work either. Please Avast, fix this :(

Amber from the LastPass team here, it's also worth trying these steps: https://lastpass.com/support.php?cmd=showfaq&id=465&questiondefault=an%20error%20occ

It happens on the first opening of FireFox for me on every system I have updated to the latest version of Avast Free 10.3.2225, so this is definitely something new that Avast is doing which is causing it. My last pc to be updated logged in first time, every time until I did the update and reboot, now it's the same as my desktops.

Close down FF and restart then it works perfectly from then on until next reboot. So it's must be something to do with the way the WebShield kicks in when the browser is opened for the first time.

If you turn off all shields and start FireFox for the first time, after a reboot, Lastpass logs straight in first time.

It also effects Chrome in the same way.
The following temporary fix works:

(I've reported this to the Moderators.)

Thank you all for reporting this, and a special thanks to Bob G. for making me aware of it. In turn, I brought it to the attention of our software guys, and they were able to reproduce some issues with lastpass.com (and several other sites with EV certificates).

I just got an update from them. They report that they believe they’ve found the issue and it fixes several problems at once (including lastpass.com and livestream.com access, which was reported by a user on Twitter). They are now trying to find out the proper way of releasing the fix – either as an program update R4 or emergency update package.

We should know something soon.

You may be a newbie on the forum. You certainly aren't a newbie to me. :)

Thanks for the update. Please let us know when the fix gets applied.
